Babies: 9 - 12 Months

11 month old keeps waking up

So I put DD down at 730 (3 hours ago) and she has woken up at least 10 times.  She's not crying, just standing up in her crib/sitting/looking around and  then she goes back to sleep within 10 seconds.  I originally thought that the dishwasher was keeping her up/she saw the kitchen light from underneath her door, but I can't think of what is keeping her up.

 What's going on?

I want her to get good sleep.

Re: 11 month old keeps waking up

  • is 7:30 her usual bedtime? could she not be tired? how did she nap today?

It could be she isn't tired, is in pain from teeth, or just simply doesn't want to sleep!

    hard to say..

  • She usually sleeps from 7-730 and she was definitely tired.  Very sleepy during dinner.  Her napping was fine.  Slept a total of about 2.5 hours (normal) during her two naps at daycare.

When she finally went down completely (at 11 or so), she slept through the night until 6 am.

I need to not look at the monitor unless she's crying and relax a bit, I think.

  • DS is also having sleep issues.  He has been waking up sometime in the middle of the night and will NOT go back to sleep until he gets a bottle.  I've tried rocking him, walking with him, singing to him.  I've even tried giving him warm water instead of formula but it hasn't worked.

I've tried letting him cry it out too but he just sits or stands in his crib and whines.  I've let him go a whole hour at 2 in the morning.

I think it started when he got some new teeth and now has become habit.  Is your DD getting any new teeth?  If so, maybe give some medicane before bed to help her sleep through the night??

  • If you're not using something already - try white noise. My daughter is a light sleeper so having the fan on medium next to the crib has helped a lot especially during daddy's day off and there's more noise in the house ;) Either way, as long as she doesn't get used to someone coming in every time she should revert back to her old patterns eventually...

  • I can never tell when new teeth are imminent.  She's been drooling for the past 5 months! :)

We used to leave the music on until we went to bed (but have been using the timer now, so that it's only on for one hour after she goes down).  That's a good reminder, I will put the white noise (instead of the music) until we go to bed.
