DS isn't even 2 yet so I can't answer. The going rate could change a lot by then. I don't want to make him feel bad when all his friends get 5 bucks and he just gets a lousy 2.
Allowance will vary with chores. I would definitely prefer to pay the kids to do them than do it myself.
DH and I agree that she will earn allowance for all chores that help the family, i.e. vacuuming, dishwasher, setting table, clearing table, etc. She will not get paid for things like making her bed, doing her laundry, cleaning her bathroom, cleaning her room.
I think she will get $5 a week when she is 5, $6 when she is 6, etc... until 15.

Not trying to be snarky but what does a 5 year old need 5/week for?
Will they be saving for toys and games and other stuff like a shirt they "need" or "have to have" but you don't want to buy?
ETA: because 300 a year and growing is a nice savings. Do they put it in a bank or piggy bank?

I don't know I thought it would be good amount to start to show 1/3 goes to savings 1/3 goes to Giving and 1/3 goes to spending. I mean toys aren't really cheap these days even if they saved for a month they would probably just then have enough to get a toy they want.

Kind of butting in...but my parents did stuff like this with me from a young age. It taught me to work hard to get things I want and how to budget/save money. If I wanted a toy, I didn't get it just for being me--I had to earn the money to get it. I got a small allowance like this for doing chores that were also above and beyond "regular" household responsibilities but also got money for every A on my report card. I was a straight A student (or very close to it) for much of school. I'm still very good with saving/budgeting.
When I was a teenager my mom would give me an allowance of I think 30 a month, but I had to buy all my own bathroom products...shampoo and conditioner, razors, tampons, makeup, etc. If I had any left over I could use it for fun things but the main idea was to get me used to using my money to buy necessities, since that's what most adult life is. I haven't really thought it through enough to decide if ill do this with my kids or do no allowance.
I won't pay for daily chores or even the occasional bigger chore. If they want money and ask for things they can do to earn it, ill think of something.
Toothfairy will probably be 25 or 50 cents a tooth.
I wouldn't pay DD for regular chores. That's just expected from any member of the household. Now, if I asked her to detail my car, then I'd pay her extra. Allowance to me is just something they get. It is tied in a way to chores or behaviour (so, like if they're being terrible I might withhold it), but it isn't a direct link (like, $1 for each chore). I think I got a few bucks a week when I was like 10. I might give $10 a week when they are ten? It will depend on what 8,9,10 year olds are up to when DD's that age.
I will probably give $1/tooth.

DS is 4 and does not get paid for doing things that need to be done to run the household on a daily basis:
-setting the table/clearing his dishes
-picking up toys
-putting his things away
-gathering his laundry, putting them in the washer or putting them away
-keeping his room tidy, bed made, etc.
-putting silverware away
-gathering trash from other rooms
He sometimes earns money (he is collecting for a clock in his room) for:
-cleaning the patio
-help clean the garage
-odd chores we have around
-help clean out the cars
I like this.
I'm replying just to say: my Tooth Fairy left IOUs for many teeth.
WTF Mom? You can't spare a goddamn quarter?
