Labor and Delivery - Kaiser

Has anyone had experience with giving birth at kaiser. I was talking to my doctor about the experience and she said that you will give birth in one room ( your own room) and then have postpartum in a different room that i may have to share. I dont want to sound selfish or anything, but i really want my own room for both experiences. I feel uncomfortable healing with someone else and their family right next to me.

Has anyone experienced this and is it as bad as i think it sounds?

At sutter I shared a room for 4 hours before they could find me a private room. It was awful...hell actually. But that probably had more to do with the fact that I prosecuted the baby daddy of my roomie a year earlier

OP, Can you do a tour of the facilities before you decide? Where I'm delivering has both options, but you have to pay extra for the private room. So I'm going to see the set up of the shared rooms before I pony up the cash.

The kaiser in Ontario, ca that I delivered at has only private rooms. I believe the fontana kaiser has the private rooms only too. I think it just depends on which kaiser your at. Is there any others that you could go to?

Totally with you on that one. I'm a public defender in a smaller town with a high crime rate and my SO is a corrections officer. We run into my clients (who usually hate me b/c I can't get their case dismissed) at my OB appointments all the time. And the nurse who gave us a tour of L&D? My SO recognized her from a recent stay in jail. Sigh.

I think I would be really nervous knowing that the nurse at my hospital had recently been in jail. I'm hoping it was something harmless but for me, ignorance would be bliss.

I delivered at Kaiser (Fontana, Ca) and had a private recovery room. I know another nearby Kaiser, in Ontario is the same, but another one has some shared rooms. I think it just depends on the particular hospital.
