Right now DS is getting formula made for infants 0-12 months but I notice there is toddler formula for babies 9+ months. What is the difference and does it matter which they get? DS will be 10 months on Saturday. I plan to ask the pedi about this, but I'm wondering if we need to switch.
Re: Infant vs toddler formula?
I wondered about it too. So I compared the labels, and for the Similac, the ingredients are exactly the same except the toddler formula has a greater amount of the vitamins and minerals. I plan to stick with the infant formula until he's 1. Then I'm going to talk to the pedi about whole milk. If he doesn't do well with the milk, or she recommends it, then we'll probably switch to the toddler formula.
I don't really think there's any need to switch yet, especially if he's eating solid food. I've heard that it can upset their stomach or make them constipated since it has more iron in it. But, I don't know from experience, it's just what I found in my googling
Toddler formula does have a higher amount of a few vitamins and minerals, but if your LO is eating a balanced and nutritious diet of solid foods, you can stick with infant formula until LO is weaned over to whole milk.
I've bought a few cans of Enfagrow, but only with coupons and sales that made it the same price as the generic infant formula. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.
DS: 11/8/11 | 9 lb 7 oz, 22 in
DD: 5/22/14 | 9 lb 9 oz, 21.5 in
This is why I switched. It's cheaper and basically the same thing. With the checks I got in the mail and a coupon i got from Target, I was able to get a 2 refill pack for $12.
