Sippy cups

Hi ladies!  First time posting to this board! (Coming from Dec. 2011 moms) I am trying to get my LO to take a sippy cup.  (She just turned 10 months.) Depending on her mood she will sometimes take the sippy--but more often than not, she won't! Do you still offer bottles to your LOs or exclusively use sippy cups?  Not sure if I should just stop the bottles cold turkey at this point??

TTC #1 since 02/09 Dx: Unexplained infertility After a hysteroscopy and D&C in 4/10, 3 rounds of Clomid (and one round of Femara for good measure), and acupuncture for 5 months, I got my first BFP after my first round of IUI with Femara and injectables. I am blessed. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Sippy cups

  • We are having a really hard time getting our girls to take on to the sippy cup. Our one daughter is working with a speech therapist every week and she has recommended using a straw sippy cup and offering it at every meal. Also, she said to have my own sippy cup and show them how to do it as they have theirs. So far they just chew on the straw but once in awhile we'll get a few sips down. I'm hoping w/ practice they'll eventually get the hang of it.  I dont plan to switch fully to sippys until after their 1st bday

  • I offer a sippy cup at meals but still use bottles inbetween meals.  My LO does really well with Sippy Cups.  I started out with water at the 6 month mark though and now I use cow milk.

  • When I want DD to take a full feeding of BM, I give her a bottle.  At meals or when we're on the go I'll offer her water in a sippy.  She does best with the straw sippy.

  • We do both. Formula with bottles and water in sippy cups. DS really likes the sippies with straws, but it took him a few months to get the hang of them. We've done WCM a few times in a sippy to start getting him used to it, too.

  • DS just plays with the sippy cup. Sometimes he bites on it. He doesn't know what to do with it yet.

  • We just gave her a sippy cup with water in the beginning just so she got used to what to do with it. And it took awhile for DD to drink out of it instead of just play with the sippy cup. (Apparently it is hillarious to just turn a sippy cup upside down all the time.) Over the weekend, we transitioned completely to the sippy cup...no bottles. DD will be one on Halloween.

  • We did straw cups with water and bottles with milk up until 11 months, then we switched over to the straw cups with everything.

  • We use a Lollacup straw sippy cup and she transitioned with little to no problems. I still offer a bottle in the morning and at night, but everything thing else is in the sippy. It's a bit pricey for a sippy cup, but we bought replacement straws and the cleaning kit so we won't need to buy any others, so IMO it's worth the cost. Plus, it has a weighted straw so when LO tilts the cup up, they can still drink because the straw follows the liquid.

  • we use bottles for formula, and a straw cup for water at meals. We're thinking of trying formula in a sippy - we have the silicone sippy nipple for the Avent bottles, but just need to find the handles!
