Pregnant after a Loss

Fetal heartbeat on both sides

I got up the nerve to use my doppler again this morning because I woke up panicking that the doctor will not be able to find a HB today. I can hear what really sounds like a fetal HB on both sides of my belly button. I don't think either one is mine (both are in the 150s). I've had multiple u/s, so it's not twins. Now I am just freaking myself out that neither one is really the baby :( I've googled, and read that one may be the placenta, but is the placenta the same rate as the baby or as me?

Has this happened to anyone?

Re: Fetal heartbeat on both sides

  • Yep, it could be the placenta or an echo.  It will be the same rate as LO's hr.

  • I was told the placenta would be the same as my heart rate. I can pick it up on both sides too... Really hoping its an echo.

  • I could be the umbilical cord which will have the same rate as LO. It will also have more of a swooshing sound as opposed to the galloping sound of the hb. It kind of sounds like an echo but it's the cord. And if you can only find the cord but not the actually hb you are still ok because the cord only pulses with LO's heartbeat.

  • How far on either side of your belly button do you mean?

We can often hear the heartbeat in a few different places on my belly at the same time.  For instance, sometimes I can hear it from placing the doppler right above the pubic bone and pointing upward and also hear it from more of the middle of my stomach pointing downward--I don't think given the baby's size at this point that one needs to be directly over the exact spot of the heart to hear the heartbeat.

BFP #1 9/21/11. EDD 6/4/12.  Twins discovered at 8 weeks. Twin B lost at 14 weeks due to megacystis.  Alice Joe born and lost 1/5/12 at 18.5 weeks due to pre-term labor.

    BFP #2 7/11/12.  EDD 3/23/13.  Ada Alice born 3/20/13.

    Probably 4-5 inches apart.

When I went to the doctor, she found it pretty much right in the middle. I chickened out on asking about what I heard this morning. I was afraid to admit I had a home doppler Embarrassed
