C-sections

RCS Question

I delivered my daughter by CS 4 months ago, it was unplanned and a bit of a rocky recovery but everyone is great.

I am wondering about second babies, are repeat c-sections the norm?  My labor never progressed and it was determined that my pelvis is to narrow for baby to descend. Would this lead to a repeat CS?

I am totally not against another one! I just can't help but think about the future and the possibility of more  babies. I am in Canada... I am not sure if there are different criteria here for RSC. Just curious!

Thanks :)

Re: RCS Question

  • I'm not sure that your case would automatically mean you would need another CS or not. I'm in Canada too, and I had to meet with an OB (as opposed to the regular midwife I see). The OB went over the report from last time in detail with me. Since I had a lot of vertical tears, it was deemed as too risky. I would think they would let you attempt a VBAC and see how you progress, but the OB would probably have the final say.

  • You sound like me!  Only 4 months in and already thinking about the future :)  I had  similar delivery, I made it to 10 centimeters though and pushed for 3 hours but they think I was just too small to get him through, his head did get misshaped from pushing but I couldn't get him to crown so we did an unplanned c/s.

One of the nurses at my OBGYN, whom I see for my yearly exams and trust her so much, said that I could try for a VBAC but they won't induce and they won't let me go past my due date.  She also said that they may recommend me just doing a repeat since I was too small for the first, to be on the safe side.  She said you wouldn't want the baby getting half way out and then getting stuck.... it happened to her and she saw it a few times while she was a deliver nurse.  Eeek!

I have no idea what I'll end up doing, I was induced with my DS so I guess the ONLY thing I feel cheated out of is not getting to experience going into labor on my own and all of the excitement that comes with that.

You got way further then I did! 31 hours and 2cm! I remember them saying that there was no way a baby was going to make it through there and that my pelvis was empty during labor. She never made it in at all.

I cant help but plan for the next time! Thanks for the input ladies!

  • i wouldn't say it's an automatic thing but it's i was the EXACT same for my delivery.

we are doing a RCS because i too am very narrow hipped and isn't worth the risk for us to go through labour...
