Formula causing diarrhea

I bought alimentum because it's cheaper than nutramigen and it's making him have diarrhea I know how dare I try to save few bucks. Do you think if I put some rice in his bottle it will help? Or I have a sample can if nutramigen I could mix with the alimentum to cut it.

Re: Formula causing diarrhea

  • I wouldn't try rice before checking with the doctor. When my daughter switched to soy formula she had diarrhea the first day, which is unusual as soy usually causes constipation. I called her pediatrician and they said that formula changes often cause diarrhea at first, especially if the old formula was milk based and the change is being made due to a milk intolerance or allergy. My daughter was only 5 weeks old then, and they said to allow 2 weeks to adjust to the new formula and if the diarrhea diapers totaled 8-10/day to be bring her in. Also, they said I could give her an ounce of Pedialyte mixed with water if I was concerned about dehydration. Thankfully she just had the one episode before she adjusted.

  • I would do half and half until LO gets used to the alimentum. If you do it gradually it should be less problematic on LO's tummy
