This video at first had my blood boiling, especially since the person in question is from a town very close to my hometown. But the ending is awesome- trust me. Watch to the very end!
I'm hoping the people behind him were just having a "wait....whut?" moment because dude should've had a much bigger positive response from the audience.

That's what I thought as well. Almost like watching a bunch of apathetic Canandians at a pre-election debate.
Fwiw, Ive heard a similar speech before, so I was expecting that. And if my blonde brain could remember, there was another one similar that drew parallels to Romney and the racial integration speech.

I think some of the lack of response was this. However, growing up there I also know that there's a lot of hatred spread in that area so I am not convinced that it isn't due to the audience.

You could be right. My mom went to high school and nursing school there in the late sixties/early seventies, shes told me some pretty upsetting stories. She was more than happy when they came back. My aunt did tell a funny story about her teacher at the time. She got detention for a week for correcting the teacher that the textbook was misinformed about Canada. It was not a frozen wasteland of tundra as soon as you got over the border. That they did indeed have a dairy farm. Teacher called her a liar and that textbooks weren't wrong. Maybe that was her teacher in the background.
While we're on the subject, praise the Lord! I finally figured out how to make links clicky on my phone/my Mac! ::insert winky face::
How? I'm still having copy paste issues on my iPad. I still havent figured that out.
. Hmm. I don't have copy paste issues. However, I just started with [url]paste your URL here[url] You have to take out the 's.
ETA: bump mobile took out the stars. And there should be a backslash in front of the second [url].

I'll try that. Some days I can paste, others not. But my iPad is 1st gen, not sure if that does anything.
It just goes to show that the bible is being used as a guise for bigotry, yet again.
Did you watch the video? That shouldn't have been what you got from that.
That was his whole point! The Bible is used as a cover-up for bigotry. It was then and it is now.
"Any accurate reading of the Bible shows that _____ goes against the true word of god. ...making special rights for ____ has taken another step in the direction of bringing god's judgement against our land. ...Unchristian views will be forced on us and on our children, for we will be forced to go against our personal morals." etc, etc.
Insert whatever bigotry you want there: slavery, segregation, women's rights, gay rights. In every.single.situation the bible was used to support the bigoted social perspective.

Oh, ok. I just wanted to make sure you got to the end. Unfortunately, in that area of the country, which is where I spent all my formative years, that is the "normal" way of thinking. I obviously don't agree with it, but it doesn't surprise me at all that this is the type of argument that is used in the southern part of Missouri/Northern Arkansas.
