Switching Formula

My son is really fussy and gassy. He is 6 weeks old. We tried the gas drops but they didn't seem to work. He is on Similac Advance and I'm thinking of putting him on Similac Sensitive. Anyone else go through this? Did you consult your pediatrician before switching formula?

Re: Switching Formula

  • I've switched formula several times and never consulted my pediatrician. Not sure if that's the right thing to do though.

  • I used Enfamil Gentlease with my first, took me awhile though to get to that one. Then with my second I started off with the Gentlease, but doc told me to change to soy because of a cow milk allergy. So I would talk to the doc before changing, just to be safe

  • I suggest calling the similac feeding line. The number is on all of the cans/tubs. They are registered dieticians, nurses and lactation specialists and they will have great advice and suggest the right formula for LO and how to phase it in.

  • We switched to Gerber Soothe and our baby is doing so well on that formula! Pediatrician said to go ahead and switch. Just don't switch multiple times without consulting your pediatrician. Good luck!

  • Our pedi said it was fine to just switch over. We originally started out of similac advance and felt it made him gassy so we tried both similac sensitive and enfamile gentlease... both seem to make it work. Enfamil newborn seem to agree with his tummy the best until he started spitting up a lot so we tried Enfamil AR... which made him spit up more... then this past week, his gas pains have really been bugging him. He is miserable with gas. We're trying a soy based formula now.

  • I went through a couple change and I am satisfied with enfamil gentlease. Lo was on Gerber gentle..he was terribly gassy and couldn't pass a bm. He spit up like crazy. So I tried enfamil ar for spit up...made him even more gassy. Then I tried Gerber soy..still no solution. Then I finally decided gentlease..best decisions ever. Normal poop hardly any gas and he spits up less. :
