Nanny Question - Two Children

We have had our nanny for a year and a half and she takes care of my 2 year old.  I just had another child and will be on maternity leave until the end of Feb.

My question is:  In our situation the nanny will never have both children while I am on leave.  Since I am EBF I will mostly be taking care of the newborn except for the few hours a week my 2 year old is in mothers day out.  We will most likely be giving our nanny paid time off as family comes into town etc. (she has already had 2 weeks off, paid, since my mom came in town).  Given all of this, should we still increase our nannys pay since there are technically 2 children or is this acceptable to do once I go back to work and shes caring for both on her own?

Re: Nanny Question - Two Children

  • I would wait to give her the increase when you go back to work.  Until then, her responsibilities are going to be the same as they were before baby.  If you need to leave her with both kids once in a while, I'd give her a little extra money for that week, but otherwise, I'd give the formal raise when you go back to work.

  • I would wait until you go back to work as that is when her responsibilities will change.
  • I agree with the others and wouldn't increase until her responsibilities do.
