How much awake time before bed?

It seems like DS2 sleeps and naps best in the afternoon into the evening. Sometimes he is snoozin away all the way up until bedtime it seems. We are trying our best to have some good awake time right before bed, but it always seems to take him forever to fall asleep before bed, and sometimes isn't asleep until 10:30-11:00.

What is your typical bedtime routine like? How late does LO nap up until bedtime? What time is your "bedtime" and what time is your "morning"? (morning being when you no longer try and get LO immediately back down) Hope that makes sense? We started a routine with DS1 at a very young age and it seemed to really help him establish excellent sleeping habits.

Re: How much awake time before bed?

  • I never let him stay up for more than an hour and 15 minutes. This does not change his sleeping habits at all. He goes down easily at 8:30 to 9, most of the time, and wakes at 7:30 to 8.

He gives me a 5 hour stretch then every 3 hours after that. He sleeps best when he's not overtired.

    Ds is 2 months old.

  • We try and keep LO up from 5pm or 6 depending on his mid feeding and we put him to sleep from 8-9 and he sleeps 5-6 hrs then a feeding and then he sleeps for 4-5.
  • At your LO's age, just let him sleep when he wants. 10:30 or 11 is a pretty standard bed time for a LO that young because they don't STTN anyway.

  • DS1 gets a nap right after lunch then goes to bed between 730-8. And DS2 sleeps majority of the afternoon, so I try to wake him up around 6 which is dinner time. Then again around 9 or 10 and try to keep him up til we go to bed around 11-1130. This way he sleeps until about 5 or 6am.
