Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Has your LO moved to 1 nap a day??

When did you know it was time to move to 1 nap a day? Some days DS will take 2 naps and avg about 1 1/2 hrs... other days he rolls and plays in his crib playing for an hr before I get him because it is obvious he isn't going to sleep... I get him up and he happily plays, those days he goes to bed early around 6ish. I am now wondering if I should try and bump back his morning nap and hope he takes one really long nap and then move bed time  up.... thoughts? When and how did you transition to 1 nap.

  • I let my dd take the lead. And our nights are better w just one. She cut out down to one at ten months. She's not a sleeper so it could be early.

  • We still do at least 2 naps a day and I don't see transitioning to 1 a day for a few months.

  • He's just now cutting out his 3rd nap.  It pushes his bedtime up if he skips the last nap but I figure everything's going to go crazy after the time change.  I think they just change when they're ready.

  • My girls still take 2 sometimes 3 naps a day.  I just go with what they seem to need.  Somedays they seem to need more sleep then others.

  • We go back and forth between one and two.  I've found with both kids that it's just not as simple as one day you do two naps, one day you do one.  There's a bit of back and forth for a while before it sticks.  When she does one nap it starts around 11:30ish and lasts a couple hours, then she often goes to bed a bit early.  If it's a two nap day, she gets the two naps and then won't go to sleep until late for the night but there's no way she'd make it through those days without  both naps.

  • DS dropped to one nap at 6 mo. He sleeps 13-14 hrs at night, so he's never needed a whole lot of sleep during the day.

  • Ours just dropped his third nap last month.  He takes a morning & afternoon and sleeps 11 hours at night, but he's a sleeper like me so I don't expect him to drop one for a while.  I won't force it, just let him lead.
