Formula mixing

I was wondering if anyone knew if a formula mixing bottle exists that goes up to 8oz?  Do they make 8 oz. bottles that have a cap for formula mixing?

I have been mixing formula in the free Medela bottles you get when you purchase a breast pump.  They work great but, they only go up to 5oz. and the directions say to only make formula in 2,4 or 8oz.  She?s feeding closer to 6 oz at a time now sometimes only 5 oz. Well, it?s getting crazy to use two Medela bottles to make 8oz. v/s just using one 8 oz bottle.  It says on the Dr. Browns bottles do not mix formula in bottle so? how do we mix it or I?m I doing it all right? Or suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Formula mixing

  • What formula can you not make in 6 oz increments?  Can't you just use 3 scoops?  I suppose that doesn't fix your problem though, since it's still more than 5 oz.  I've just always mixed the formula in the bottle.  Have you tried adding a drop of mylicon after you mix it in the bottle to get rid of the bubbles?

  • Get the travel caps for the Dr. B's bottles. BRU sells them, and Target should, too. They just don't want you to shake it all with the tube/vent system attached.

We use Born Free bottles with wide-mouth travel caps (perfect fit!) for shaking and make 6 or 8 oz bottles for DS. We make a few ahead and keep them in the fridge, which also cuts down on the bubbles by the time he eats them.

  • How about a formula pitcher--just make what you need for the day:

  • You can get the cheap 3pk of Evenflo bottles for like $2.99 and mix in those and transfer to your feeding bottle. We are doing 5oz bottles as well and just use 2 1/2 scoops so we don't waste any formula by making too much. Make them before hand and it cuts down on the bubbles/foam. Hope this helps some! :)
  • Thanks for the responce. I didnt see any before at Target b/c I was thinking they had to make some kinda cap.... so, maybe I will try BRU.

I understand what you mean with using the Dr. Brown bottles to mix.  That makes sence to me.  If it had a cap then I could mix it in the same bottle Im using. Thanks again...

  • We mixed our formula in a big pitcher and made a bunch at once and then put in the bottles so we would be good for the day.  It turns out that my DS didn't like the powdered formula so we switched back to the pre-prepared kind.  But the pitcher did work well, also I am sure he would be happy to know that his formula was being mixed in a Miller Lite pitcher.
  • I mix my formula in the bottles. I've never heard not to mix in bottles. We actually stir our bottles instead of shaking and so we never have bottles. I think that has really helped DD.
  • I really like the idea of using the pitcher!  I'll have to check that out also while at BRU.  We did use the Pre-prepared kind also for sometime but, now she seams fine with the Enf Lipil brand.

    Thanks agian!

I'll have to find out how to add a photo of her.

  • I think it's just Dr. Browns bottles.  On the box of Dr. Browns bottles it says on the back do not mix formula in the bottle. But, if they have a travel cap I can buy then I can mix it in there.  I think all bottle companies are different.

We also have a pitcher, but it's not a fancy formula-specific one--it's a Rubbermaid pitcher from Target that has the plastic stirring-wand thingy inside the handle. It worked great when I used it, but found using the travel caps + bottles more to my liking.
