DS Wets Through Diaper EVERY Night

Almost every night DS wakes up wet because he has wet through this diaper. I have tried the Pampers Extra Protection (sz. 3) and the Huggies Overnighters (sz. 4) and it keeps happening. I have thought about buying the doublers that can be used for cloth diapers but what do you do if the baby poops? I am at a complete loss but especially with winter coming I feel horrible that DS wakes up all wet.

Does anyone have any advice?

Re: DS Wets Through Diaper EVERY Night

  • We had this issue with DD for a while, we did use diaper doublers which helped quite a bit. She's not an overnight pooper, so I'm not too sure on that question, but I would assume it kind of sits there just like the diaper itself? Once we sleep trained at 6.5 months, the wetting through her diaper, pjs onto her sheets stopped. A little reading lead me to understand that since she was taking in so much liquid at night, 3 to 5 times a night, that she'd have to go more at night. No more middle of the night feedings and less laundry is awesome!! I have heard of it being more common with boys though, mostly because of the ..err..angle they are in the diaper, but no experience here with boys :. Good luck!!!

  • He sleeps almost 12 hours every night without getting up. He does have an 8 oz bottle before bed. I've tried positioning his "winky" all sorts of different ways but it doesn't seem to help. He doesn't poop during the night very often, but sometimes he does. It is more he poops as soon as he wakes up, but before I can get him out of bed.

  • You can get disposable diaper doublers like this
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0083973FK/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1350743329sr=82pi=SL75

Or you can try putting a maxi pad in the diaper, [sounds weird, but I first heard about it on the bump, and my sis does it for her DD].

  • You could try a wool soaker over the diaper.  You can find them from WHAMS on etsy.

I would definitely try the diaper doublers, our BRU sells them. We always used extra diaper cream since I had read they can cause rashes easier and I noticed her tush was a bit redder than norm. Is he drinking the bottle as he is going to bed or a little before? DD gets dinner from 7 to 7:30ish and we do bedtime right after; she prob gets 15 min or so before we put her down for the night and we've been alright. Maybe try moving the bottle up by 15min or so and see of that helps? Not sure it will but it may be worth a shot. As far as angling him maybe a mom with a DS can help? Only DD here : otherwise I know a lot of folks swear by cloth, even of you just buy 1 to try at night we haven't tried it though. Don't you hate how you feel like you finally figure something out and then they through you for a loop? It's crazy!!!!

ETA: what diapers do you use during the day? We've been happy/successful with pampers swaddlers and cruisers for the most part.

  • My DD does this almost every night and most of the time she poops during the night so she seems to get even more soaked when she does this.  However her sister does not do this.  I have tried all different brands and sizes of diapers and nothing helps.  I am so glad you posted this, because I didn't know what to do about it.  I never thought about the diaper doublers other people suggested.  I am going to have to give it a try.

  • I had this problem and tried LOTS of different remedies.  The only thing that worked for us was putting DS in a Huggies overnight diaper with a HUGE size 6 Cruiser over it.  I hate that he has to wear 2 diapers at night BUT he wakes up dry now and sleeps for much longer periods of time at night so it was totally worth it.

  • Try a PUL diaper cover. Flips are great ones that are fairly economical. Some CD companies also make disposable inserts that might make great doublers. Flip and Grovia make good ones. Or you could use two Flip inserts inside a cover. I have never had a nighttime leak with CDs so I bet using some of our tricks would help you.

  • We use Pampers Baby Dry for our DD and she has never leaked through them (knock on wood)!  Could it be too much liquid in the evenings before bed?  I notice her diaper is a little more full when we don't watch the juice/water intake on top of the milk at night before bed.
