Multiples

If your multiples were preemies...

So far my girls are freaking angels. They never cry. They just sleep around the clock. I'm assuming this will all end when they get closer to their due date and start to act like the average I'm going to wake up 5x a night and cry like crazy newborn? DD1 had colic and the first four months were barely survivable. I fully expected the same x2 with the girls and have been pleasantly surprised so far.

Will the other shoe drop soon with growth or is it possible that I just might have gotten very, very lucky?

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • My twins were only 2 weeks early bit left the hospital 9 down their body weight. We had to wake them to feed every 3 hours, which was unheard of to me. Our first DD never slept and cried all the time. At 8 weeks old the babies do cry a little more and wake up on their own at night, but still every 3 hours. Their temperament is nothing like our 1st DD, we also have more experience this time so things may seem easier. Hope you find yourself in a similar situation!

That sounds a lot like our situation right now. I hope it continues. Thanks for giving me hope! :-)

  • What's there gestational age right now?  My boys came home at 38 weeks and were perfect angels in the NICU.  Never cried.  Then around their EDD they "woke up" and it was all over.... LOL,  Every evening between 5-10 they went crazy but I did get lucky and they started sleeping 7-8 hour stretches at 6 weeks adjusted.  It was just the time they were awake was rough.  Hopefully your girls will stay that way but it maybe too early to tell.
  • My girls were about 6 weeks early and we the shoe dropped about their EDD.  They never cried in the NICU either.  The "witching" hour would start about 5.  It was rough for a while.  I hope your girls stay quiet!  Big Smile

  • They're just 37 weeks. I definitely agree it's too soon to know either way, I was just curious about other experiences and if others saw a big change near their EDD. Fingers crossed we get a break this time around, but if not, we'll survive it one way or another. :-)

  • We just hit their due date this week, and do far they are still in the sleepy preemie stage. Ive noticed they may stay awake just a bit longer after a feed, but no big changes yet.

So far it's been easy because of all the sleeping,I'm nervous about them really coming into their own.

  • Our boys are about 4 weeks past their due date and still nap pretty well during the day and aren't really too awake/fussy still (knock on wood).  They do have a couple hours in the evening where they are a little harder to console but mostly just want to be held.  Hope you got lucky this time! I can't imagine having two colicky/fussy babies!!

Same with my twins.  Shortly after their EDD they came out of that always sleepy phase.  Enjoy it while you can!

  • I called it the "preemie fog" they could sleep anywhere.

They came out of it, and it was rough for a bit. Got on a schedule & now they are awesome!

  • My 35 weeker singleton was an angel.  ?  It's possible.  I expect some hellion twins after his relative easiness.

  • I felt the same way the first couple of months we had them home.  It was easy!!  We did keep them on a consistent feeding schedule though so I think that helped them sleep longer at night when the pedi gave us the ok to stop waking them.  I'm trying to remember but it seemed like they were only "bad" during the witching hours around 6 at night they would cry for a couple of hours a lot but that only lasted a month or two.
