I have to do my GD test some time next week at the latest and DH cant go because he has to stay with DD. DD who is only 19 months will freak out if she has to sit there that long (it's only an hour... but a 19month old... sitting for an hour?) so i have to find another way to get there. i cant drive myself because i know me well enough to know it's not safe for me to be driving after the glucose test. i get too shakey, dizzy, ect... and i dont want or need to get into an accident. the irritating part is that all my friends who i do EVERYTHING for anytime they need it cant seem to find the time to help me any time i need it. .-. it's super frusturating. i hope i can find someone to help me out i would really like to schedual my appt. bleh
mini rant over. ty ladies.
Re: mini rant ~ Blood work
why would your DH go??? that's a lot to ask of him i think...just hang out at the clinic a bit longer and bring a snack so you won't feel dizzy afterwords.
i fasted for 10 hours and sat through a 2 hour test and i was fine with a granola bar
I felt perfectly fine the two times I've done it. I don't think very many people actually get dizzy from it so it shouldn't be an issue.
That being said, DH and my 18m old came with me the last one I had and when she started to get restless (which didn't take long) DH took her to a nearby park.
You're going to have 2 kids, you might as well start now getting used to doing things that make DD sit for a while. =/ Unless DH doesn't work, he can't be there for all of them right? It sucks and it is hard, but you gotta do it sometimes.
See if you can go to an alternate location or lab that is open on a weekend or another day when someone else can assist if you need to. Or like the PP said, bring a snack to eat right after the test and wait it out there until you feel ok again.
I was worried about feeling dizzy or getting a headache with the test too, but I had it done yesterday and it wasn't bad at all. I did seem to have a slight headache but nothing to write home about. DH came with me because he had the morning off anyway, but I would have been fine without him. I ate eggs and bacon for breakfast which definitely could have helped having protein in my system, like PP said.
This exactly. My dr also advised having something high in protein to eat after the test. They gave me some peanut butter crackers and I brought an egg and sausage burrito to eat in the car when I left. I felt fine.
