Any advice for when in pregnancy it's time to start searching for a doula? I didn't use one the first time around and regret it. I've been thinking about it a bit, but don't want to jump the gun and start searching too early.
I don't think it's ever too early to interview and hire a doula. The earlier you look in your pregnancy the better the chance the person you want most is available.
I started contacting doulas at 20 weeks, after the anatomy scan. My doula told me I was on the early side, and most of her clients generally sign a contract around 30 weeks.

Right away, imo. Some doulas have openings late in a pregnancy, but many are completely booked by then. I've had several people contact me the day they got their BFP and I'm usually completely booked 5-6 months in advance.

I started interviewing at 16 weeks during my first pregnancy. It's never too early to start looking especially if you know there are certain things you'd like in/from a doula. An established doula will often have a high repeat client base and they limit the number of clients they'll take during your due date window.
