Similac Sensitive?

My 6 week old son is very gassy.  He farts A LOT and sometimes it seems like he is really trying hard to push.  He is on Similac Advance liquid formula right now.  I was thinking of trying Similac Sensitive liquid formula.  Has anyone out there done this?  What were your results?  If it didn't work, how long did you try it until you went back to something else?  TIA! Smile

Re: Similac Sensitive?

  • have you tried mylicon or gripe water yet?  I'd try those first before changing formula.

  • I haven't tried anything else, that's the only formula my son has had. He's also getting breastmilk. He has been VERY gassy and uncomfortable the past couple days...not sure if it's from the formula or broccoli that I had on like Monday. He also hasn't pooped since Tuesday, which coincides with starting the formula Monday night. So, I don't know how good it is for fussiness and gas like it says on the container.

  • I was BFing my son up until earlier this week.  He was getting terrible diaper rash because of his loose stools all the time and he had horrible gas that was causing him a lot of pain.  My doctor recommended Similac Sensitive since we also needed to clear up his breastmilk jaundice.  He's been on it since Tuesday and is much happier.  He still has gas, but not nearly as much as before.  So far it seems to be working well and he's eating a lot of it so he must like it.

  • I would try the gas drops OR gripe water. Nothing super evasive and it (gas drops) work like a charm for our LO. It's just a few drops before feeding and it's not medicine, you can purchase it anywhere.

  • I just switched to this a few days ago b/c my LO was having serious spit ups and gas. We slowly introduced it so it wasnt a total shock to her system. It really seems to be helping her. Hope whatever you decide your LO feels better soon!
  • DD was on Similac Complete for the first 3 weeks and was super gassy, fussy, basically miserable in the evenings. She would push hard, grunt, and fart constantly. We started using little tummys to help with the gas which helped slightly but she still seemed miserable. We switched to Similac Sensitive and it's made a huge difference. She still gets fussy when trying to poop or fart but there's not all the fussing in between. It took a few days for her stomach to adjust to the new formula just transitation slowly. We started by giving one bottle of the sensitive the first day then two the next then switch every other bottle on the third day since she was adjusting well then every bottle by day four. Good Luck
