I feel terrible saying this because you love the name, but...if I had an English Mastiff, I would probably name him Brutus. To me it says "large dog name."

I don't like the name at all, and it's even worse paired with Otis.
ETA: I don't have anything against Otis. I just don't like the matchy sounds at the end for a sibset.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts! DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome. 131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
I don't like it. First, I dont think it goes well with Otis. The similar endings are too matchy for me. Also, I feel that it puts too much pressure on your child to be a big tough guy, if his name is Brutus. If he ends up to be a quiet, skinny kid then he is bound to be the "butt" of jokes.
On another note, I LOVE the name Hank. It is my top boy name right now.
Hmmm well I guess they at least had his name right. The only other meaning I have noticed for it when studying Latin was slow. Slow as in sluggish but not stupid or dumb. Looks like an error in translation...

Sorry.....
et tu brute?
I'm not fond of Brutus...but I do like Bruno.
Edit: Clarification...I know Bruno is more German and Brutus is more Latin...but they always get grouped together in my head.

What is your source? Having taken way to much Latin I have always thought it was a cognomen meaning heavy.

This was my first thought. I think it is more wearable for a dog than a person, sorry.
I know several dogs named Brutus. Good name for a dog. Not so good name for a human IMO.

Julius Caesar for me too.
Julius Caesar for me too.
I agree with this.
This ! People name their animals Brutus in Ohio.
I really like Hank, and Otis is growing on me. But Brutus is kind of terrible. :-/
The dog association doesn't bother me so much, it's the association of being a mean bully. No bueno.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
