LO was born at 28 weeks and is now 10 months old. She was on the vent only briefly (six hours or so) in the NICU, has never had a cold of any kind, and is caught up in terms of growth and developmental milestones. She doesn't attend daycare and doesn't have siblings at home.
I was surprised to get a call from the insurance company's specialty pharmacy about shipping Synagis to our ped's office. If she had been born two days later, it wouldn't even be a possibility. I feel like it's not necessary for her at this point and DH and I have always been in favor of as little medication and medical intervention as possible. Just FYI, we do believe strongly in basic childhood vaccines.
The ped ordered it because LO did meet the basic criteria (born at 28w, less than 12 months old) but has said that based on LO's health, giving the Synagis would be a personal choice. Would I be crazy to decline it?
