Changing Tables

Do you still use one? Did you ever? How do you change LO now?

I have always used the changed table. For every single diaper change. I don't think I've ever changed her anywhere else in the house, haha. All my "supplies" are there especially since we CD so that helps so much. She now constantly flips over and spins around on the changing table though so I am so paranoid about her getting hurt. I have to stay RIGHT THERE for sure. Sometimes she hits her head on the sides or gets a hand or foot kind of caught in the rails. Ugh! If I were to change her on the floor I think she would move around even more though because she has more space to do it. But she doesn't even crawl yet and are are already having so many problems with changing her diaper and clothes! I'm scared to see what it's like once she can REALLY get around.

Re: Changing Tables

  • I use a changing table, pretty much all diapers and clothes changing happens there.  She is definitely a wild one and started trying to climb down the table about three months ago.  Now I usually let her play with a toy and it keeps her occupied.  Sometimes the toy is an empty water bottle or the tub of lotion.  (non-toys are always more fun for her)

About two weeks ago I started doing her bedtime routine on the floor.  I pull the changing pad mattress thing onto the floor and put a basket of supplies next to it and we sit on the floor.  She had become too wild and now if she tries to crawl away I don't have to worry about any injuries.

  • We still use the changing table for about a third of the changes. Partly because we spend most of our time on the first floor, and her bedroom is on the second floor. On the first floor I just plop her on a blanket or an old diaper bags changing pad, and do my best to hold her naked butt still! When were at the point that she's too big for the table I'm going to keep it in her room. We have bins for storage on the bottom that I can't do without, and well probably use the top for toy storage.

  • We haven't used our changing table in over a month. (clarification: Our changing table is just a changing pad on the dresser) Aria is WAY too wiggly. I quit using it the day she flipped over, lunged for the basket holding the (open) powder, butt paste, etc., and knocked everything to the floor in one swoop.

We change diapers on the floor or in the crib now. I do spend more time chasing her down than changing her diaper. She thinks it's hilarious and her daddy thinks its fun... me, not so much.

  • Never really used ours. We have a basket in the living room and our bedroom w/diapers and all the essentials. Honestly our changing table is just a major pain with the design of it. It's from IKEA and it's a hand-me-down. It's a dresser with a shelving unit on top of it. The changing table flips down from the shelving unit. So, it's more of pain to deal with it... we just removed the piece that's suppose to be the changing table. It was my sisters and she never used it for her 3 kids. My SIL also had the same one and she never used it for her 3 kids. Yea, he's a wiggle worm now and it takes a lot longer to change him but watching him giggle when we have to catch him, puts a big smile on my face.

  • I used ours for the first few months but only at night since it's on the second floor. Now I just put him on a mat on the floor in his nursery. It's just easier than worrying about him rolling all over. When we are downstairs, which is most of the time, we use the floor or couch.

  • At home we always use it. All the stuff is there and it's just easier. She hold still enough that w e can still use the buckle on it to hold her while we pick out her clothes. At work I always change her on the floor.

  • We still use ours, and have since I was able to climb stairs after my c/s. It's nice having everything in one spot. We also CD, so it seems easier. Ours is like this:

But we have an extra changing pad in the top, the contoured kind, and the basket of diaper cream, lotion, etc. I think I need to take out the extra pad and that might make it a little safer so he doesn't flip out the side. He hasn't yet, but he's getting faster.

  • I use a changing table, always have.  It's more convenient for me as everything, like you said, is right there.  Ian has gotten very squirmy and diaper changes are getting more and more difficult.  I can't imagine not doing it on the table.  Like you said, I think it would be a LOT worse if he weren't somewhat confined on the table.  He's wacked his head on the end several times, from getting p!ssed off and slinging himself back before I can get him laid down.  I'll continue to use it for as long as I can.  I do wish that it was a changing table that was on top of a dresser or something...that didn't have the end bars on it.  I think that would make it a little easier.  But, we have what we have and will make do.  The problem I see happening, sooner rather than later, is that he'll be too long for it, because of how it's made.  Again, if were just on top of a dresser I think that wouldn't be as big of an issue.

  • We also CD, but we have never used a change table, we change him on our bed.

  • We use the changing table in A's room for almost all diaper changes when we're home. It's just easier because everything I need is right there. It's on our second floor but I usually try to combine a trip if I'm going up. She wiggles around but I have a couple toys she only gets during diaper changes so I can usually distract her with them. Clothing changes happen on the floor in her room. There isn't enough room on the changing table to manuver her and the clothes at the same time. And that way, when we're done, I can leave her there for a minute while I put away her dirty clothes.

  • We still use the table for DD.  We have two one in her room and one downstairs in our living room.  We used them for DS until he was potty changed at almost 3.  They learn not to wiggle.

  • I always changed ds2 on the changing table,up until age 2 and he'd didn't fit. He peed anytime his penis wasn't covered. Dd gets changed anywhere. We have wipes in 3 rooms and only use diaper cream if she's red. Ds2 is the official diaper retriever, he loves to help.

  • We don't have a changing table. We kinda have a changing station in her room that has been used a few times. Mostly, we just change her on the floor.

  • we had one (well, a change pad on a dresser) but I think we used it like twice. When she was smaller, we just did it on the bed or couch, depending on where we were, and now we just do it on the floor.

  • We always use the changing table at home. He is getting to be quite wiggly, though, I don't know how much longer that will last. Our changing table is a contoured changing pad on op of a dresser. The pad is bolted to the dresser, but there are no rails.
