Nap Nanny??

I was on the phone with my Aunt last night.  She asked if we were planning to register for a pack n' play because she would like to buy it for us.  She also mentioned something called a Nap Nanny  https://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=129328&.   She said all the girls where she lives have registered for them.   After I got off the phone I investigated.

DH and I both don't want a lot of clutter around the house with baby things.  The pack and play seems multi-purpose for us because it would serve as a changing table as well as a place for the baby to nap on the main level of our house.  Does anyone use this?  Does the nap Nanny do something that other things don't do?  How important is inclined napping if my child does not have acid reflux?  If the baby naps at an incline will it be able to sleep flat in a crib or pack n' play?

Re: Nap Nanny??

  • Be careful with this product -- there have been infant deaths associated with it being used in a pack n play or crib. https://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10309.html

  • I'm totally with you on the "not wanting clutter around the house" thing, too.  I want to do my best to contain most of the baby stuff to the baby's room and only have the essentials in the living areas, so it doesn't look like Babies R Us puked in our house. ;-)

This just seems like another "thing" to have, and as you said, if your baby doesn't have reflux issues, there's no need whatsover for him/her to sleep on an incline like that.  I say the pack & play would be more than sufficient for naptime outside the baby's room.

This. The Nap Nanny in general scares me as suffication risk. Plus, I think it may be one of those baby products that your LO will use for such a sort period of time it isn't worth purchasing. Instead of getting your LO used to the Nap Nanny put them in their crib and have them get used to napping in there. That way there won't be a transition period of getting your LO to sleep in their crib when they get too big for the Nap Nanny.

  • We are getting the Rock'n Play instead of the Nap Nanny (it's also inclined....helps with reflux/colic like you said)   It folds up and can double as a bouncer seat and hopefully replace a swing (since it's sways lightly)  but it is by no means a necessity.    But if we had room for a pack n play, we would do that instead.  Our room is just too tiny for a pack n play.  If we had room (which it sounds like you do have room)  I would go for the pack n play.  More multi purpose.

FWIW....the Rock N play is about half the price of a Nap Nanny.  Probably not a concern for you since it would be a gift, but just tossing that out there if anyone is considering these items.

  • We registered for a Nap Nanny. Many of my friends say they are great and can be brought back and forth easily to grandparents houses and things like that. As with the safety, I think with anything you need to use common sense and be smart. For example, the Bumbo is perfectly safe when used appropriately. I feel the same about the Nap Nanny. If you do not want a lot of clutter that makes sense and just skip it!

  • In my opinion, not needed.  You shouldn't put anything in the crib except a tightly fitted sheet and the baby.  My LO had acid reflux and we just put blocks under the feet of the feet of the bed to raise one end.

  • When I asked a few friends what they couldn't live without, one mentioned this. To me, it's a little overpriced for what it is. I registered for the Rock n Play. Like you, I didn't want extra clutter and the RnP can be folded where the Nap Nanny just takes up space.

  • My hubby and I are registering for the Rock & Play! My coworker said this was her saviour because her son was colicky for 2 months. We might get a pack & play as well for the living room downstairs.

  • We bought a Nap Nanny for this baby.  I have two older kids and the Nap Nanny wasn't around, but knowing what reflux can be like, I wanted one.  BUT, I wasn't going to pay $125 for one.  I happened to find one at a Mom 2 Mom sale for $15.  It's the newer version, which has been modified from the original (the one that was part of the recall).

I wouldn't ever leave my baby alone in it, but I think it's a good option if you can get it cheaper than regular price.

Do you need it?  Absolutely not.

  • I have a friend who swears by it and bought two. You can't put them in the crib or a Pack and Play they are supposed to be used on the floor. We borrowed one of theirs one night because DS was a horrible sleeper and he did actually sleep REALLY well the night we borrowed it. We didn't really want to spend more money so we got the Rock and Play instead. That worked for us most of the time....
