For the past few weeks DD has been waking up crying earlier than she normally gets up but if I went in and nursed her she would go right back to sleep. This week she is waking even earlier...I go in and nurse her and put her back down but it's taking her a while to get back to sleep - anywhere from 1/2 hour to an hour - it's obvious she's trying to go back to sleep, not crying/fussing or anything, she just kinda flops around and seems like she can't get comfortable. She eventually falls back to sleep for a little while and wakes up at her normal time. Then about 2 hours later (the time she would normally take her morning nap) she starts acting tired like she's ready for a nap so I bring her upstairs, nurse her and put her down in her crib. She lays there for 5 or 10 minutes and then she's up and down and babbling to herself until I go in and get her. Then about 2 - 2 1/2 hours after that she really seems ready to nap and through this week she's napped anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 hours and once she gets up she's up until bedtime.
So anyway, sorry if I'm rambling...but does this sound like a normal transition to one nap to you? How long did it take for you to get through the transition and get back to a regular routine again?
Before this she would very consistently get up around 8:30-9 go down for her morning nap at 11, wake around 12, afternoon nap at 3, wake around 4 and bed between 7:30-8. TIA
Re: Sorry another nap transition post...
We switched to 1 nap when LO moved to the new class in daycare. LO wakes 7-8am or so, nap is 12-3, then bedtime is 8pm.
Typically they should be able to be awake for 5 hours by 18 months.
I'm going through something similar with my 13 mo. She was very consistent with her 2 naps per day at 9:30 and 2:30. In the last couple of weeks she either doesn't sleep at all or doesn't sleep as long as she used to or melts down when I put her in her crib.
I've read that 15-18 mo is the time that infants are ready for the transition, but I'm going to start transitioning my LO because I feel like since she used to be very consistent and all of a sudden she's not following her normal routine, we probably need to make a change. I'm going to gradually start pushing back her morning nap to after lunch- maybe 11:30 or 12 and see how she does. I think it can take awhile for them to start sleeping longer periods- I might need to make bedtime earlier, too. Good luck!
