transition to crib

Did you wait to put LO in their crib until they had a set bed time?  DS is a very loud sleeper and keeps me awake at night (he's in a bassinet in our room).  I was thinking about putting him in his crib but we have a really hard time getting him to sleep for the night.  Lately DH has had to take him for a drive to make him pass out.  We put DD in her crib around 6 weeks but she fell asleep at the same time every night.  DS is 4.5 weeks old.

Re: transition to crib

  • I started putting Lo in his crib around 7 weeks.  He was a PITA to get to sleep in our room. I would be rocking, shushing and walking him around for hours.  Once I started putting him to bed in his room ( gave him his bottle and rocked him and put in his crib once asleep, he did much better.

  • DS is a really loud sleeper too. We had to spend two nights in the same room with him when the power when out for 3 days when he was 10 days old (not fun let me tell you).

Anyway, that just instilled in us that we made the right choice to always put him in his crib to sleep (at night--for naps he will sleep multiple places).

I don't think it matters that he doesn't go to sleep at the same time everynight, but I would transition him by putting the bassinet in his room and then transition him from there to his crib over a couple of nights.
