Anyone else hate pumping??

All of the people on this board and the breast feeding board who ep not to mention a friend irl have me thinking.. . I give those women credit because I hate pumping. With my middle son I worked so I had to pump at work but this time a sahm and only pump like twice a month to have a small freezer stash and I am so much happier this time. I hate everything about the pump, the way it feels, the way it sounds, washing the parts, worrying about rotating the freezer stash, everything.
Anyone else dislike pumping ??

Re: Anyone else hate pumping??

  • Seriously. EPers deserve some serious credit. My mother says I should pump more or she won't like the bottle (which may be true because she doesn't) but I just hate it so much I don't want to bother with it. It feels so time consuming. I'm very glad BFing worked out for me cause I'm way too lazy :P
Plus my routine would be worse because I have a lipase issue so I'd have to do all the normal pumping stuff, plus scald it if I need to store it for longer than a few hours. Another reason to dread her starting daycare. -_-

  • I hate pumping so much. I seriously applaud those that EP because I don't know if I could do it. I also applaud those that pump at work. I hate being attached to the pump and having to travel with it if I'm going to be gone for awhile. I'm lucky that I work across the street from my house so I pump in the morning, after work and while on lunch.

I started pumping once on the weekends again so that I can build more of a stash. I'm hoping I can either wean from the pump a little early or just pump for less time a day and not worry about having enough.

  • I exclusivly pumped for 1.5 months. It was so much extra work. I couldnt stand it.
  • I really hate it too. It's such a pain in the neck and I also admire the women who do it all day for months on end! I've been lucky in that I've been home with DD so far, so have only pumped a little here and there, but I'll hopefully find a job soon and then I'll have to start pumping... I just hope it gets easier once I'm more used to it.

  • I seriously hate pumping.  It makes me want to stop BFing altogether.  I only pump twice a day and my supply is suffering because of it.  I hate it so much.
  • HATE IT. hate it. hate it. hate it.

Did I mention I hate it?  I EPed with my son for 6 months (he was a NICU baby and couldn't nurse so I thought it was really important to give him bm).  This time I'm just pumping at work (as I type this matter of fact) but I still dread it.  I also hate all the cleaning and lugging it back and forth every day.  If this baby wasn't MSPI I might already be just doing morning/night nursing and formula during the day.  At least I'm almost halfway and 6 more months isn't that long in the grand scheme.

  • Thanks this makes me feel better!

  • I hate it too, but the one thing I found that I did like was that I knew exactly how much my daughter took.  5 oz, 6 oz, etc.  When we were just BF'ing I had no clue, now I can control that.  I feel confident after a pumped bottle that if she gets crabby, it isn't because she is hungry (or is depending on the timing).

  • I know I'm out of the norm, but I honestly don't mind it at all. I think it's kinda cool! That being said I only pump 2 to 3 times a day, 5 days a week. Basically only when I'm at work. There have been stressful days when I wonder when I'll be able to do it, and I hate having to awkwardly tell clients "I need to visit the New Mother's Room for a bit", but other than that I don't mind.

That being said, if I EP, I would hate it. I HAAAAAAATE washing bottles pump parts. HATE.IT. I love breastfeeding the extra snuggles with my son!

  • We FF now, but for the first 3 months we would attemp to BF, I would pump and then supplement with BM.  It was absolutely awful and time consuming.  I hated being tied to the pump and since my LO never latched well or nursed well enough I couldn't be out for too long without being in pain.  I give so much credit to moms who pump and/or EP!!!

  • I hated pumping with my first.  I felt trapped to nursing and pumping and felt like a weight lifted off my shoulder when I stopped pumping when DS turned 1.

This time I still hate it but not as much.  Pumping this time around is a little tougher b/c I'm at a new job that is male dominated and it is hard to get away 3 times a day to pump.  But I actually look forward to pumping so I can take a break from my stressful day.   So I still dislike it but for different reasons.  I also feel like it is more important this time b/c my LO is MSPI (not soy though).

  • DS has been exclusively FF since birth but my original plan was to EP he was straight to NICU after birth so they gave him formula right away. I pumped a few times before I left the hospital so they could mix in with his bottles but absolutely hated it so I stopped. I caught a lot of sht from some of the nurses and especially the LC for stopping but you know what? I did not like it. Just wasnt for me so no reason that they or anyone should judge.

  • My pump stopped working, so if I pump it's manually. My pump was 2 years old. Got it when I had dd, who never took to the bottle. Ds is different doesn't mind it, but manual pumping is even more of a pain so I've only done it sporadically when leaving him with my mom or going out for a long period of time if I'm not sure of a comfortable nursing spot. Pumping makes me feel more like a cow! I need to do it more now, though, so ds can have more cereal.
  • I ep and I think when I am done having kids I am going to go all office space on my pump. Seriously.

  • I hate it too!  I didn't hate it a couple months ago but now I do.  I enjoyed nursing my son when I wasn't at work but even that started to wear on me recently.  I am in the process of slowly weaning from pumping and nursing.  My LO gets formula the majority of the time right now and I think this coming week I am going to put the pump away all together.  I feel a little bad because I worked hard to get to this point but I am also done and ready to stop.  The only thing I hate now is my breasts are a little sore and hard sometimes from missing nursing/pump sessions.

  • I EP and I don't really mind, but then again I've never known anything different.  I recently dropped down to 4 pumps a day and I feel so liberated, LOL

  • Hooked up to the pump right now. Hate it. All this breastfeeding and pumping is rewarding though. And my husband does so much more around the house and for me because I am always nursing or pumping or thinking about nursing or pumping.

  • I do hate it. Not enough to quit though. I don't EP, but I totally give women who do so much credit. I either pump or nurse 6 x's a day, and to me breastfeeding is alot of work. I do hope to make it to a year though, so I don't have to add the cost of formula into my budget. Been there, done that.

  • Yes!  I pump while I'm at work and feel quite akward doing it at work.  I use a small conference room, we don't have a Mother's Room, and get nervous about people walking in or hearing the pump.  It's strange to think about my boobs being out at work (Since I work in an office not Hooters LOL).  I also hate washing the parts, like last night I forgot and then had to do it this morning ontop of getting ready and heading out to work.  I want to transition to formula during the day and do a morning and night BF, but DD won't take a bottle from hubby or me, only from the sitter.

We might work slowly towards the FF during the day...so until then I'll stick with pumping.

  • I EBF and work four days/week, so I pump 3x/day on the days I work and I pump every morning to add to my ridiculous freezer stash. The worst part is cleaning all the parts. Ugh.
