Transitioning to crib-help needed

My lo is 4 months old now and my DH and I think it's time for him to move into his crib.  He sleeps in a rnp now and is quickly outgrowing it.  I have a Sunza Halo he wears and a video monitor but I'm still really nervous about it.  And whenever we try him in it he screams.  So, my questions are when did you transition your lo to their crib?  And do you have any advice to help make the transition easier for both him and me?  I'm a mess about not having him sleeping next to me at night.

TIA

Re: Transitioning to crib-help needed

  • DD was sleeping in crib the second week home. I would put her in the crib for naps, even though usually those were a bust. I would try and put him in the crib when your in his room just folding clothes, cleaning up, etc. Basically your going have to keep at it and eventually he will understand that his crib is a safe haven. As for you, it's just going to take time, I say check on him as much as possible, but once he starts sleeping through the night in his crib things will get easier for you as well. Good luck.

  • We transitioned two weeks ago. They were both sleeping in their own PnP in our room so I think the transition for them wasn't too bad because they were used to the flat surface. It's been rough on me. We started by laying them down in their crib at their most definite sleepy time, after their first bottle. Then we did all naps in the crib. Then we bit the bullet and put them in it at night. The boys have had zero difficulty but I watch the monitor a lot at night. Good luck!

  • We made the transition about 2.5 weeks ago.  She used the RnP for only a couple weeks and then was in the PnP.  From day 1 we would change, play, rock, eat, etc in her room so she was very used to the environment.  I would also let her hang out and play in her crib if I needed a minute to do something.  Before we made the full transition we started having her nap in the crib.

She did really well and had no issues making the switch.  She moves around a ton in her sleep and there she actually has the room vs in her PnP.  DH slept on the floor in her room the first night but she was fine.  Our rooms share a wall and we have a video monitor which I love!

I found that I actually sleep better too.  My "mommy ears" always alert me but I am not waking up at every little sound and her mid-night chat sessions aren't so loud.
