Sippy cup hell

Anyone else have issues getting their kiddo to drink out of it instead of bottle?  He is almost a year... we've been doing all sippy cups and one bottle at night.

it's been almost a week and he is drinking about 12 oz. less now.  Probably only drinking 12-14 oz a day.  I've tried apple juice, water, multiple cups...

Anyone have an 11mo old- how much are they drinking?

Re: Sippy cup hell

  • What kind of cup are you using? We haven't had much luck with regular sippys, but DS loves the ones with straws. It took a few months for him to get used to them though.

Avent also has a weird sippy cup that baby uses like a regular cup, we've had some success with it, could be worth it to check it out.

As far as how much he drinks, he only gets water in his sippy and he'll drink 1-2 full cups a day.

  • We have tried four different types of sippys. The straw cup, the soft silicone spout, the more common hard spout and the old fashioned sippy with no plungers (just pours out and doesn't require baby to suck for liquid). Obviously the latter type of sippy was too messy, the straw was an epic fail, the silicone was more of a teether for DD. We finally had luck with the hard spout sippy. I would remove the plunger and she would get liquid out, then I would put it back in and see if she would suck and try hard to get the liquid out. I religiously gave it to her for about three full weeks at every meal to see if she would "get it." She finally did about a week and a half ago.

Just keep with it. Give it to your LO at every meal so they are used to seeing it. I know how stressful it is! For some reason, having DD drink out of a sippy was almost as stressful as sleep training. Lack of control is hard, huh? :-) Be patient and consistent, they'll get it.

ETA: DD also only gets water in hers for now. She drinks between one and two full cups a day (6-8 oz. I would guess).

  • We bought every sippy on the market and guess what?? She loves the cheapo hard spout, take n' toss ones!! Once she got the hang of that, so was able to adjust to all the other ones!!!
