I've been emailing ErgoBaby's customer support without any luck regarding these two questions and was wondering if any of you might have an answer to one or both of them. Here they are... The other night I went to BRU to try on an ErgoBaby Original carrier. While I figured it out and everything felt secure, I had a few issues.
First: I'm pretty petite (5' on a good day) and it seemed like the top of the carrier (when I tried it on in the front) kept hitting me in the chin. Is there a way to lower it some so that it would still feel secure around my back and hips without hitting me in the chin? Would that change with LO in it? Meaning, instead of the carrier, would it be their head hitting me in the chin?
Second: It felt especially snug. I made sure to tighten the back and hip straps to what I thought would be a secure, snug measure; nothing too loose and nothing too tight. But it felt like when it was at that level there would be no room for a baby to fit. As in, I tried to pull it out to see how much space could go between me and the carrier it didn't seem like more than 6". Did I just have it on too tightly? Did I need to adjust something? I just don't want to get a carrier and hate it, you know?
Thanks for any advice!
Re: ErgoBaby question (since customer support is useless)
1. A baby in it will create a seat and that will lower it. As baby grows it will take up more fabric for the seat and therefore it will continue to be lower on you. Try going back and trying it on with a big stuffed bear. I'm 5'2" so I know what you mean.
2. Again, this is different once you have baby in it. You should start out at a safe spot and then put baby in and tighten. That way you don't over or under tighten. Some people (like me) prefer the sport. I also had used a moby for months before so I was used to the restraint of a carrier. It will feel "different" but it shouldn't feel uncomfortable. If it's uncomfortable you won't end up using it. There is a learning curve to it though and gets better with practice.
The good news is that these go pretty well if you need to resell it.
babies head should be high enough you can kiss the top of their head. If ergo doesn't fit quite right check out a beco butterfly 2. I am 5'1" and got a better fit with it than ergo. I hae heard that from a few shorties.
