Food Allergy

Reaction to every vegi/fruit we have tried...

My pediatrician recommended to start baby food at 4 months. I was planning on waiting until at least 6 months, but went with her advice. I exclusively pump, so he had only had breast milk until then. We started with rice cereal for 1 week and then oatmeal for 1 week. Both of these were fine, no problems. I then moved on to sweet potatoes. After only 2-3 bites, DS developed a mask-like rash around his eyes/temples. His face got puffy, especially around his eyes. This went away for the most part ~5 minutes after I stopped feeding him. I tried a different brand (organic) the next day and the same thing happened. I have gone on to try squash, carrots, greenbeans, peas, apples, and bananas. The same mask-like rash and puffiness comes within a few bites and goes away shortly after we quit. I even tried to puree fresh veggies and fruits per the pediatricians advice after a dr visit last week. She thought it was probably a reaction to a preservative. The same thing happens. I have been in constant contact with his pediatrician over this and she encourages me to keep trying new things. I am now only giving him breastmilk and oatmeal because I am so worried the reaction is going to get worse. I am seriously about to have a nervous breakdown if I can't figure this out! I have an appt with another pediatrician in the practice next week. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before or heard of anyone who has? Any advice?? Really hoping this is something he outgrows!!

  • Oh no! I can totally relate to how scary and frustrating that is. Can you possibly see a pediatric allergist? I am considering doing a blood test to test for allergies but if everything is giving a reaction, then I'm not sure what you would do. Hopefully an allergist could lead you in the right direction. Good luck!
