Babies: 9 - 12 Months

No longer waving?

DD started waving a while ago.  She never did it on command, but would do it regularly enough and at appropriate times.  Lately though, she hasn't done it at all.  It's like she never did it in the first place.  Did anyone else's LO stop doing something like this (waving, clapping, anything like that)?  I'm not sure if she is just over it because she already figured it out or what.  Of course, being a FTM, I am worried that she's regressing or something.  Sigh.  Any thoughts?

Re: No longer waving?

  • It is normal for them to start to do something and then stop. DS rolled over and then stopped for almost a month...then just like that he started again and it was NONSTOP! We are working on waving too and he did it twice.. and then nothing. BUT funny thing (we just got a video monitor) and when he is hanging out in his crib going to sleep or after waking up... he is waving!! Almost like he is wanting to perfect and practice it before doing it in public again...HAHA! I wouldn't worry!

  • Yes this is totally normal.  DD did this when she was starting to say da-da.  She said it a ton, then nothing and was barely saying any words at all.  Then just a couple weeks ago she started saying it all over again.

  • DS did that too.  When he first learned how to wave, he did it all the time (probably because he got a good reaction out of us).  Then he stopped for a while and just gave us a stare when we tried to get him to wave.  Now he's doing it again - at the appropriate times.

So it seems like at first, he did it because it made us happy.  Then we probably stopped getting so excited, so he stopped.  Then he learned the actual meaning behind it and is doing is appropriately now.

    Don't worry!
