Adoption

Rough spot.

I've been put on bed rest, which really makes finding a couple a lot harder, because I liked being able to meet at a neutral place, but I'm not supposed to be up and around for long and it'd be easier on me to meet at my place, I just don't know how I feel about it. Do you think I should just try to keep meetings short and meet at a neutral place or ask them to come to my place?

On a positive note, the boys are doing pretty good, just hoping that they stay cooking for a bit longer. :/ I've also been leaning towards two couples that I want to meet, hopefully one will really click with me.

Oh my goodness, bed rest at 22 weeks must be tough.  I would keep meetings short and meet at a neutral place.  If you end up liking a couple and want to get to know them better then invite them back to your place so you can rest.  Take care of yourself mama.

I would ask your doctor, honestly. 22 weeks is really early. You don't want to deliver for months yet!

I agree.. Also if you are going through an agency, know that these couples are screened and legit. They are not creepers. So if if comes to meeting at your place maybe you could have a social worker or someone at the agency there as well. That way you have some security. However, they are screened and legit. They will not judge your place. They are there to meet you not "check out your place"

    Good luck!

  • How strict of bedrest are you on?  Is going somewhere for an hour or so if you are going to be sitting the entire time a no-go?

I do agree with PP that the AP have gone through backround checks galore, and if it makes it feel better to have a SW there, maybe your place might be best.  Otherwise, how far is the agency's office?  Skype?  I'm just throwing out ideas now.

  • Oh jeez! I'm sorry you've been put on bedrest so early! Take care of yourself! And those babies, too!!

As for meeting with potential couples, what about Skype? Perhaps you could have an initial meeting over Skype (or Oovoo) until you get a better feel for them. Then, once you feel closer to making a decision, you maybe can have one meeting - either at your house or a neutral location, depending on how you're feeling at that point?

  • Definately check with your doctor before going to any meetings, I really feel for you having to do bed rest so soon - I suggest lots of DVDs, library books and your computer!!

I like PPs ideas of Skype or having an agency worker come along with the couples if they do meet at your house.  (( Hugs )) I'm sorry you have to be on bedrest, I know you already have so much on your plate.

  • I'm very sorry you've been placed on bedrest.  That must be so scary at this point, in addition to being really inconvenient!

Unfortunately, I agree that you should talk to your doctor about this, and if he says no to out-of-home visits, that maybe you should seek some other way to "meet" the couples.

  • I am sorry to hear that you are on bedrest.  Do they plan to have you on it for the rest of the pregnancy or will it be a shorter term thing?  Are you having conversations with the PAPs via phone calls first?  You could also do skype to start off with and then once you are more comfortable have the come over or go to a nuetral place.  Your health needs to come first so I am sure they would understand if you are not able to come to them.

  • Right now the bed rest is precautionary, so my doctor said short outings are fine, and I asked about this situation and she said to just keep the meetings short. I wasn't worried about them judging my place, I just don't know how I would handle things in a non neutral location. I think maybe meeting initially at the agency or at a restaurant and inviting them to come over after sounds like a good idea. thanks.

  • Ai! Bedrest at 22 weeks. I am so sorry to hear that and I hope that the concerns subside. I am mentally sending you so many trashy magazines and other mindless entertainment :)

I would imagine feeling very uncomfortable having PAPs in my house so I would try as hard as I could to have them elsewhere at first. Glad to hear your dr is OK with that and I hope you and the babies are doing well.
