Sleep problems

The last 2 weeks or so Hannah has just about sworn off all sleep. She naps about 1 hr in the afternoon, goes to bed at least an hour later and wakes up a good hour earlier. She is also waking more at night. Last night we put her in our bed at 2am after a straight hour of crying just so any of us could sleep.
This is not a habit I want to start though. I think she might be having some night time separation anxiety but we are all exhausted and cranky and I have no solutions here.
She is recently getting over a cold and she just cut 2 teeth. Not sure if this is part of it or what. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Sleep problems

  • I have a horrible sleeper, so I can sympathize. I can say that my DD always sleeps poorly when she is teething and has a cold, which always seem to go hand in hand. Hopefully once the teething pain stops (which I notice for my daughter takes longer than the teeth breaking through) and the cold subsides, she'll go back to her normal pattern. I don't have any specific advice. Just wanted to say that my DD acts the same way when she's sick or teething (or both!). Good luck!

  • Teething seems to always throw a monkey wrench in my DD's sleep habits. While her 4 molars were coming in last month, she was waking up screaming during the night and would usually settle down in a couple of minutes, but then she'd be up for the day at literally 5:30 am on the dot. It was horrible because she was clearly SO exhausted and not ready to be up, but we couldn't ever get her back to sleep. Once the 4 molars came in, she went back to normal! Hopefully the same will be true for your LO!

  • We are back to the dreaded 45 min naps too.  I have no advice there.  DD also has a cold and is getting her canines.  Fun times.

The only tip I have is for the seperation anxiety.  DD was waking up at night, I'd nurse her (yes, we still nurse at night) and then she scream and not want to go in her crib.  I'd get her settled back down, try to put her down, she'd scream, etc.  She goes to sleep on her own at bedtime, so it's not that she can't put herself back to sleep, she just seemed to need me there.  So the first night I let her sleep with us but I didn't want that to continue.  So the next night I put her back in her crib and laid down on the floor next to her bed.  She cried for less than a minute and then feel asleep and then I went back to bed.  After a few nights of this she went back to normal.  That was about a month ago.  Every once in a while she'll do it again or not want to go to sleep at bedtime. and so I keep my camping sleeping pad in her room and just lie on it for a few minutes when she needs me too.

    Hope that helps.
