Toy storage

Looking for some sort of toy storage solution.  We have a playroom but we don't use it and probably won't until DS is a bit older and can play unsupervised.  So, right now everything is in the living room.  What do you do keep toys organized?  PIP if possible!

Re: Toy storage

  • We keep them in small wicker baskets on the bottle shelf of our coffee table. We then have a matching large wicker trunk we keep him large toys in that we have placed in a corner of our living room. Aside from the jumper and a million pictures of Hank you would never know we had a baby!

  • Big laundry basket.  And it serves as a toy itself.  He absolutely loves digging in it, and dumping everything out of it.

  • I got a large canvas tote with a soft lid from hobby lobby.

  • I have an old heavy antique box on our fireplace that holds toys. It also keeps kids out of the fireplace.

I have also used diaper boxes. One of them I decoupaged scrapbook paper to it so that it would blend  in with my family room. I hope to make two more for her room.

  • Right now we have a tiny basket for books and a matching small basket for toys. But the toys are never in the basket. I'm usually too lazy to pick them up after she goes to bed. Eventually I would like to get either a toy box or wicker trunk to use as a toy box for in the family room for she is older.

  • we bought some fabric bins from target. one large one with a lid for most of her toys, it can also support weight so it can be a bench, and one smaller one for her books.

  • My mom got us this (clicky).  It's small and has a bunch of bins but we don't put much in it because they just dump the bins out.  I had put the paper books on the bottom since I figured they wouldn't be able to pull that bin out (since they just rip the paper books, we leave the indestructible ones out for them to play with), but they can get to the books with no problem at all.  We have the durable books in a mesh bin and we have a laundry basket in the living room that we toss their toys in because they love dumping it out.  I think they thing that my mom got us will be good when they're a little older and they're favorite activity isn't dumping things out.

  • I have a toy box in her room. We have three smaller baskets spaced throughout the house. One in the living room on the bottom shelf of the book shelf. One in our room and one in the dinningroom/kitchen area. I have figured out if the the different toys are in different places she plays with them longer in that room.

Once she starts getting bored, I go re-fill the basket with different toys from the toy box...it is like she just got a bunch of new toys.

Oh there is also another basket of toys on the shelf of the changing table for when she wont be still while changing or when she is crying.

The big toys are in her room and we bring them out periodically throughout the day.

  • our sectional has storage under each seat, as does the ottoman.  her toys go in the ottoman, my remotes and game controllers go under the chaise portion.
