Those who are 1 and done

DH and I are talking about not having any more kids due to my medical issues. I have type 1 diabetes and my eye doctor told me being pregnant caused some of my eye damage and going through another pregnancy would most likely make it worse....

Can you share some of the reasons you are one and done? I am having a hard time with this because I really want 2 kids but don't want to put my eye sight at risk because diabetics are already at risk for complication that could lead to complete vission loss.

Re: Those who are 1 and done

  • We are AMA (me 38 DH 40) and I had a pretty rough pregnancy and delivery, and I just don't think that my body can't handle it anymore.   DH and I were stressed out and worried that something was going to be wrong with her that we could not enjoy the pregnancy. Not to mention we are so tired by the end of the day I don't know how we could keep up with anymore. :)  We are perfectly fine with our beautiful DD, she is the greatest gift we will ever get.

I love this. Prefect. I never thought I would be able to have my own kids so I am trying to look at it that way, to see how lucky I am that I do have my one perfect little girl.

  • I am also AMA (will be 38 in March)... Conceiving L took close to two years so we always said that we would be so lucky and blessed to just have one. Even if we wanted another I feel the pressure to start trying for another and that is not what I want, even if I was younger. I would have preferred to wait a few years. Also DC is about $1000 a month and there is no way I want to pay double that. I also like the lifestyle we will be able to lead and provide to L with just the 3 of us. And finally, if I had another colicky baby I am not sure I would survive, my PPD was pretty bad and even though I am better it was a sad time for me.

  • I don't really have a medical or other excuse but I just think we are 1 and done.  DH and I have a great marriage, we have a house, great family and friends and of course we have Charlotte and love her to death.  Right now, I'm at the stage where I kind of just want to enjoy what we have instead of thinking about what's next.

I'm 30 so this may change and we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.  DH agreed that the main motivation for having another LO would be so DD could have a sibling.  I'm very close with my brother and DH was close with his sister growing up.  Right now, that doesn't seem like enough of a reason to have another baby...we'll see.
