Preemies

When did your preemie get on the charts?

Hi ladies!  My LO was born at 32 weeks last year, and is now 14 months old.  At her one year appointment, she was still not on the charts at 14lbs 14.5oz and 26.5inches.  Our pediatrician sent us for multiple tests to ensure there was nothing inhibiting her growth, and thankfully, everything came back normal.  I was just wondering if anyone else's preemie took more than a year to "catch up" in terms of growth.  Developmentally, she's right on track, just really tiny.  I wonder if she'll always be petite (doesn't seem likely since I'm 5'9" and MH is 6'2") or if one night she'll just double in size!

  • Mine isn't on the charts either.  But the doctor doesn't seem to be worried.  She's charting her, and her growth arc looks the same as those on the chart.  It's just underneath the rest.

  • My 31 weeker was on the charts for weight pretty quickly.  He has been between 35-50th percentile for weight.  At his 1 year appointment he was 50th percentile.  But for length he is riding the very bottom of the charts. He will be going the first week of November for his next well baby so I am curious to see where he ends up on the charts

  • She still isn't but I'm not worried. I was actually her weight at 1 year also and I wasn't a preemie. Some babies are small!
  • Still not quite there yet either.  At our 1 year they were 15.12  and 17.11 which was the first time one of them was on the actual age chart (1st percentile!).  My little one hasn't even been on adjusted age chart and finally got up on it this time.  We aren't really worried since they follow their own steady curve and are healthy.  I suspect they will be smaller than normal for a while but probably both on the charts by 2 years.  MH and I were small kids too.
  • My girls were 35w, and were only 15lbs14oz and 16lb14oz at 1 yr. They were about 28 inches, so on the chart (low) for height but scraping the bottom and below it for weight. This is how it has been since they were a month or so old. At this point (esp given that the little one is barely on the chart even adjusting a month, which is silly at this point), I don't expect them to be anything but on their own curve for weight.
  • At her 4 month appointment she made it on the charts, but barely.  I will be interested to see what she is at 6 months.  Honestly, I am not concerned whatsoever.  She is following her own curve and continues to grow and develop.  I am 5'3 and DH is not huge either so chances are she won't ever be at the high end of the charts (even if she was a 40-weeker).

  • We were on the charts at her one year appointment. She was almost at the 25th percentile for her weight. I was really excited!

  • My DS is a fromer 25 weeker and has been on the charts since he was 4 months old (1 month corrected). However he has what is called Hemihypertrophy, it is a disease where one side of his body is larger then the other. DS will also be the "stalky kid" till about high school. DS will be a year in 2 weeks and I get looked at funny when I say he was a preemie!

  • My DD will be 18 months soon and she has her check up on Tuesday but I (think) she's only around 19lbs. I'm not sure about height but I know she's not on the charts. I think she was on her adjusted age chart at like 3rd percentile or something last time but barely. She follows her own curve though. I worry CONSTANTLY about her weight.

  • DS is 17 months, 15 adjusted. He has been on the regular chart for height (35%) since 9 months and is barely on the chart for weight (he is around 20 lbs). My pedi and the neo told us that it's more important to be on the chart for height and than weight. Thankfully, he has been growing/gaining nicely at his own pace.
  • Ds was born at 34w 5d and 3lb 3oz and 15.25in. He got on the charts for height after a few months but not for weight until maybe 15 months. He's now 21.5 mo and hovers between 50th-60th for height and 10th-20th for weight. He was born <1st adjusted age for both, so I'm pretty happy with this!
