How to know if my water broke? 

So I know this is a stupid FTM question but I can't find the post on this.... I was just in the bathroom getting ready for a shower and I felt a small gush of liquid - enough to go through a liner and my panties. Now TMI, I've had a lot of discharge so I didn't think much of it and just took a shower, but now I'm nervous. Am I supposed to lie down and see if it continues to leak now? I'm scheduled for an induction next Monday (41 weeks) because as of this past Monday I wasn't dilated and baby was still too high. Maybe this is just wishful thinking? TIA!

Sounds like your water broke! For me, I thought I had peeded myself, it was just a wet panty liner....and then I kept leaking red watery liquid, soaking pad after pad. My contractions got much stronger after my water broke too. Exciting your little one is on their way!

Thanks for the info! This was just clear but am laying down for 20 min to see if anything else comes out.

I can't speak from personal experience but my OB said you'll know if it keeps going and soaking through more pads

Give them a call and perhaps you can go in to be checked. I had something similar happen that soaked through my scrub pants, but the tests were all negative for amniotic fluid. Hopefully it's real for you, though!

I thought I had peed myself, but it didn't smell like urine and I still had the urge to go. Also, I had AF dripping down my legs every time I stood up, so it was pretty obvious.

Do the walk-around-your-house-pantsless test. I walked around without any undies on and the fluid started streaming down my leg. That's how I knew it wasn't pee!  You can also lie down for ten minutes, then stand back up. If you get another gush, it's probably amniotic fluid.

GL! I hope it is your water.  I've had mine break 2 times now, and it's so great to know you are going to have your baby that day!

TMI Alert - so I ended up calling because I started to bleed, and dr had me come in. They hooked me up to a monitor for about an hour - baby is ok and although I am having some contractions they are still too far apart and baby is still really high. Dr. thinks I just had a REALLY bloody show. As for my water breaking, the tests were "inconclusive" but she thinks that I will go into labor on my own before scheduled induction on Monday. So I'm back at home - let's hope for the best!
