Monitor help

I am so confused about which monitor to get.

If we get a video monitor, I know I want a Motorola.  The only thing that is holding me back is the price...but a lot of people think it's worth it, so I don't know.

If we don't get a video monitor, I'm torn between a regular sound monitor or a sound and movement monitor.  I think we'd get an Angelcare brand for either of those options or maybe the VTech for the sound only monitor.

Our bedroom is across the hall from the nursery, so we're not very far away.  But obviously I want a good monitor not only for night, but also for naps when we're on separate floors.

Also, is the two way talk option worth it?  I don't think the Angelcare sound or sound and movement monitors have that option.

HELP!

  • Get the motorola for sure. It is worth it.

  • Go with the Motorola.  It's 100% worth it!  I didn't have a video monitor with my oldest and thought it was silly but I am SO glad we have one.  I love the 2-way talk option but mostly used it with my oldest when we were having issues with him staying in bed/playing when he was supposed to be sleeping.  We added a second camera so we have one in each boys room since their rooms are no where near our bedroom.  The picture is super clear and sound quality is good.

  • What Motorola version do you guys have?  Is there much difference between the 2.8 inch and the 3.5 inch?

As far as I can see the main difference is the 3.5 has the remote pan/tilt option.  I'm not sure that would be a really important option for us or not.

  • Personally, I have a Sony monitor, no video and no movement, just sound.  Our son sleeps in the room next door, and we have one in our room and then one downstairs.  He's 8 months old and since he arrived, I've never felt the need for anything beyond the sound only monitor.  Just my two cents - I think a lot of the pricier models are really not all that necessary - just hype.  Totally personal opinion here.

  • We have the 3.5in and I can honestly say that we've used the pan/tilt feature quite a bit but mostly with our oldest to see what he's getting in to when he's supposed to be sleeping/cleaning/etc.

I was like the PP who didn't see the need for anything but a sound monitor with my oldest but have to say that I LOVE the video feature now.  Sure, it's not absolutely necessary but it's definitely nice!  When DS starts fussing, I can take a peek to see if he's just trying to get comfy or if he's got an arm/leg in the crib slats.
