High-Risk Pregnancy

Did anyone go back to work after a cerclage?

I had a cerclage placed at 22w6d due to my cervix starting to thin (the dr didn't give any measurements or anything). I had complained about some back pain and some tightness in my abdomen so my dr sent me to the hospital to have the surgery performed that night.

I'm currently on modified bedrest and will go back to the dr on Thursday. He didn't sound too optimistic about me going back to work the last time I was there before my surgery (I'm guessing b/c it was more of an emergency situation than preventative), so I'm wonder what he will say this week.

Did anyone end up going back to work after having a cerclage?

Re: Did anyone go back to work after a cerclage?

  • At my 20 week u/s they found that my cervix was funneled and thinned to 1.5. I was scheduled for a cerclage and was on bedrest until surgery and 2 days after surgery. The day I went back to work, I started cramping and had light bleeding. I went to my doctor and he then decided to put me out on modified bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy.

  • I did, but mine was preventative at 14 weeks.  However I only made it to 22 weeks and 5 days before I was pulled off work- my cervix was funneling and shortening. I think for most people who work, bed rest at some point is almost par for the course.

  • I got mine at 22w 5d and it was definitely an emergency situation. I was shortened to 8mm and 1 cm dilated. I was on bedrest prior to the procedure though and still am.

Emergent cerclages are less successful and more risky so I'd say to err on the safe side if possible. If your Dr recommends bed rest, go with it.

  • Thanks ladies. I will definitely not be going back if the dr doesn't think it's a good idea. Even if he says well I could probably go back but just take it easy, I may choose not to. I really don't want to chance it.

As much as I hate not being able to do anything around the house but the occasional dish or two, or fold some laundry on the couch that H brings me, I'd rather be safe.
