Hi all. I'm hardly ever on anymore... popping in for a question. DS (6) has autism somewhere in the realm of HFA /Aspergers. We have moved and are seeking some behavioral help, but first they are sending us for diagnostic evaluation (it's been a long time and they want to gather as much data as they can before proceeding). A good friend has a child with similarities. She is recommending their doctor, but I have reservations. In our short conversation with this parent she shared something that the doc said doesn't sit well with me. Maybe it was just a bad example.
The doctor reevaluated this boy (11) and said his earlier Dx of Aspergers was incorrect, that his new Dx is Tourettes, OCD, and ADHD. One example of why is that the doctor told the child she has a dog and she came away from her meeting knowing that he also has 2 dogs and a cat. That if he truly has Aspergers he would have not responded to her comment of having a dog with relevant information.
I find that the older my son gets, he is likely to respond to something like that with relevant OR irrelevant information and hardly seems all that important.
Anyway, I know that's a TINY little example from an evaluation that I am sure was based on more than just that piece of information.
Any good rec's for the Pittsburgh area?
