Toddlers: 24 Months+

Any update, mamainseptember?

I'm curious what you decided to do regarding the little girl and her eating habits.

Re: Any update, mamainseptember?

  • She actually has been out sick all week with an upper respiratory infection. I did draft up a letter with guidelines on what is acceptable to pack as snacks/lunch. I put them in the cubbies of all of the kids so hopefully her parents will take there's tomorrow when she is back. I also spoke to my son's pediatrician regarding healthy eating and she said that a yogurt is sufficient for a snack, lunch should consist of something substantial like proteins, grains or fruits. When the girls mom called and told me she was going to be out for a few days, she also mentioned that LO had lost 1.5 pounds since her last time at the pediatrician 2 months ago. I have a feeling the pediatrician gave her some advice as well. I'll let you all know how it goes when they read the letter!

  • Just a quick update while they're eating breakfast. The little girl is back today, still congested but better. Her dad dropped her off with a bag of goldfish and a yogurt. I looked in her bag before he left and I said, "I don't mean for this to come out wrong, but your DD is still hungry during the day, a bag of goldfish and a yogurt do not suffice. When we spoke last week you said you would pack her more for lunch and I don't see anymore." He said, "I understand, but that is really all she eats at home so we figured that is all she would need here." I said, "Well, do you mind packing her something else for lunch because I really think she will eat it and if she does not I will send it home with you." He apologized and said on his lunch break he would bring her something and pack a lunch during the day.

I'm really hoping he heard me this time. He took the updates paper with him as well. I made some extra dinner last night so I could quickly heat it up for her today. I'm hoping her dad does bring her something, but I'm not counting on it. Ugh, so frustrating!

I really think they are playing you. You told them to bring more food. They did not. If he does not show up at lunch with some more food for that little girl, I would give them a deadline to find new care and call CPS.

Sorry you are going through this. It sounds like this little girl is not being taken care of. : (

He actually showed up! He brought her a jelly and cream cheese sandwich and she ate the whole thing! When her mom came to pick her up I brought her aside and explained my concerns about everything. She got extremely defensive at first and by the end of the conversation we came to an understanding. On Monday the girls grandma is going to bring me some kind of food dish (lasagna, stuffed shells, baked chicken, etc) and I am going to keep it in my fridge for the week and give her DD some everyday for lunch. She said that would be easier then packing her a lunch everyday, because she is "frazzled and overwhelmed" with a 2.5 year old and being pregnant.

This family clearly has issues bigger then just feeding their DD. The grandma has had to pay me multiple times because the parents didn't have it that week, the grandma takes her every weekend because the parents "are tired from working," and it goes on and on. My care is 9-5 M-F, as long as she is happy, healthy and well-fed in my care I'm not sure there is much else I can do. For now, she is going to have snacks and lunch on a regular basis, I feel like we made some progress!
