Hello! I just had our second son, G 5 weeks ago, D is 19 months and has good moments and really, really bad moments. I keep telling myself that it's only been five weeks & I cannot expect him to understand his jealous feelings overnight but oh my gosh!
When he gets angry he'll sometimes attempt to take it out on G, he's headbutted him a few times, yanked on him, pinched, tried to bite! When we say "no" he either laughs or ignores us and attempts to do it again.
MH & I both work full time - my IL's watch the kids during the day so they're together all day long.
I do my best to spend one on one time with him when I can and to praise his good behavior while ignoring the bad behavior (if I can, if he hurts someone I do call him on it). MH spends most evenings working on the nursery - yeah, it's still not done...haha so I'm pretty much alone with them every night. Plus it's cold here now so I can't take D outside to play while taking care of G as well.
Any tips, tricks or just "yeah, me too"?
Re: Newbie looking for advice
I'm a pretty laid-back parent, but hitting his baby sister is a very serious offense in our house - and yes, it happens!!! Hurting or trying to hurt his sister is one of the few things that earns him a timeout and a stern talking-to.
It will get better - my son is so much better with his sister than he was when she was a newborn
