Moms of 3 y/o

DS has always been an amazing sleeper but for the past week, he has been waking up around midnight every night.  He doesn't say what's wrong and he wants to cuddle and then goes back to sleep.  I've asked him the next day if he knows what woke him up and he says no.  Could it be growing pains/nightmares/something I don't know?  I'm just confused.

  • I would think what you describe sounds like separation anxiety. My almost-3 year old has nights where he wakes up because of nightmares or growing pains, but he'll tell me his leg hurts or tell me he's scared then tell me what his scary dream was about.

I'm guessing it must be growing pains because he is definitely going through a growth spurt and said the other day in the car that his leg hurt.  It's just odd that it's the same time at night.

Is he still napping? He might need less sleep.

Yes, he is still napping and believe me, it's needed.  When he wakes up at night it's not like he's ready to go play.  He is tired and upset.

  • DS did that, it was like he was sleep walking...it coincided with a huge growth spurt and he did stop doing it. Maybe after 2-3 weeks he went back to his normal sleeping like a zombie routine :)
