Spitting up...A lot.

My DD is 11wks2days and has recently begun spitting up, a lot. She spit up very infrequently up until about 2 weeks ago, when it was just during feedings (burping), but now it can be a significant amount of time after a feeding and she still does! And it's a lot of fluid each time. I'm concerned that shes not eating enough, because she's throwing it all back up. Her weight gain is still good, but like I said, this is a new development. This happens whether she is laying down or sitting up... Is this normal or not so much?

Re: Spitting up...A lot.

  • I had the same situation with DS1. Ultimately, if the Drs see that your LO is still gaining weight and is not otherwise uncomfortable, they don't consider it a problem. We had good luck with Enfamil Gentlese and Enfamil AR to control the amount he was spitting up.

  • Oh! And she is 100% breastmilk... I don't know if there is any correlation between that and spitting up...
  • My lo is 3 weeks and used to spit up alot. My doc said if he isnt crying during or after spitting up he is called a "happy spitter" as long as hez gaining weight its ok. I started sitting lo upright for 30 min after bottle, helped ALOT.
  • This happened to us too, so I decreased the amount of breast milk I was giving him and he doesn't spit up anymore. They spit up when they're full/eat too much. Try to take LO down a half an ounce....if there's still spit up, another half an ounce. 3.5oz works for us. I was giving him 4.5 when he was throwing up.
