Natural Birth

Sick!

I don't have a primary care doctor, and when I called around to make an appointment for what I think might be bronchitis, the receptionist seemed VERY put off by the fact that I'm being seen by a group of midwives with no OB/GYN affiliated with the practice. The nurse at my midwives' office said to see a PC but that they'd work with them on what medications to prescribe, so I wasn't concerned until this receptionist voiced hers. Has anyone dealt with a situation like this before? It's making me doubt my choice just slightly Confused

Re: Sick!

  • I would tell off that receptionist!  How rude for her to think that her receptionist opinion is even slightly on par with listening to nurse midwives who have advanced nursing degrees?!

I'd just call another practice or several more.  Oh and most Urgent Care places also take regular appts, so you can always call and talk with them.

  • Don't worry about it. That receptionist was incredibly unprofessional and had absolutely no business voicing her opinion about anything concerning your health care. As a formal medical receptionist I can tell you they don't have medical degrees and whatever she "thinks" about the care you are receiving is none of her business.

  • Do you have a minute clinic in your area? its less emergency related than urgent care but you can still walk in without an appt. (most CVS and Walgreens have them) and be seen.
  • Thanks everyone. I typically just use the Patient First around the corner from our house but I figured with a baby on the way, it's time to start being responsible about my own health in generalSmile Luckily, another office I'd left a message with called back a couple of hours after I posted and was able to see me today. The nurse practitioner (32 weeks pregnant herself!) waved off the other woman's comment and said there's absolutely nothing wrong with being seen exclusively by midwives. Looks like I've found a primary care office to stick with!
