Diaper rash cream

My LO is 3 weeks old and is starting to develop a diaper rash. I do use wipes and do pat him dry and apply some diaper rash cream. Is there a cream that you have found works the best? Right now I'm using Destin, but I didn't know if there was anything better out there for me to use. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Re: Diaper rash cream

  • We always used triple paste. Worked like a charm.

  • Different babys responds to different creams differently. I like bordeauz's because it cleans off easier then any other one I've tried. It seems more lotion-y and less stick than like desitin or triple paste

My DS is only a month old and he's had very persistent diaper rash for a little over 2 weeks (poor baby!).  I started with Desitin and it wasn't helping.  I ended up taking him to the pediatrician and was given an Rx for another cream.  That helped some, but it was slow progress.  We've been using Dr. Smith's cream and it is by far the best stuff we've tried yet. We have Boudreaux's too but haven't tried it yet.

  • i really don't know a better cream out there, but when we noticed our LO getting irritated down there, we started wiping her down with cotton balls in warm water while putting diaper cream on afterwards. the irritation went away fast!

This!  We use the green tube of bordeauz's buttpaste (the organic one) We have never had a problem!  We also only put it on after a poop or his bath.

  • Oh boy, every baby is so different.  With DS1 we started out using our free samples of Desitin, it worked great.  That's all we ever used with him.

With DS2, we plan to cloth diaper eventually, so I bought some Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm.  That worked well, but we also got some free samples of Desitin and Bordeaux's Butt Paste that DH tried.  Both of those literally peeled skin off DS2's little bum.  It looked so painful.  So we are sticking with EMAB from now on.

  • At 1 week our LO developed a diaper rash than within 2 days turned so bad that it was open sores on her bum. In those 2 days we had been using Boudreaux's and regular scented wipes. We had the nurse look at it who recommended Triple Paste. We also purchased maximum strength Desitin and some super sensitive wipes. We did a combination of max strength Desitin at home with cloth wipes and a gentle homemade wipe solution, letting her bum dry at each diaper change. When out of the house, we used Triple Paste and the gentle disposable wipes. It took about 2 weeks to completely get over the diaper rash. As soon as the diaper rash was over we started using the cloth diapers that I had been wanting to use with the Grovia magic stick for diaper rash and have had no problems.
I am having trouble updating tickers--But I am due on April 2015. I have 2 older step children: 9 and 14 yrs and I also recently had 2 younger children: 2 years and 1 year... so this means I will be having 3 under 3--and trying to fit our family of 7 into our minivan--eek!

  • I only use Virgin Coconut Oil.  It will clear up a rash almost by the next day if not by 2 days. It is a great skin protectant and wipes off super easy.  It's a lot cheaper in the long run than those yucky creams.

  • Calmoseptine was recommend to us by our Ped when DS1's diaper rash was not healing (no matter what we used or did) and starting to bleed. Calmoseptine is very thick, but did wonders. We've never had a rash like that again but reach for Calmoseptine whenever he is red now.
