Preemies

When did your preemie start smiling?

I need to stay away from LO's birth month board. Seeing all these smiling babies when my LO isn't smiling stresses me out. I know I need to give him more time and go by his adjusted age, but it still stresses me out.

Re: When did your preemie start smiling?

  • It's still very early.  Mine didn't until about 6-8 weeks adjusted.  I felt like we waited FOREVER for those smiles.  It will come soon Big Smile

  • About two months adjusted. It will come soon, just hang in there. And stay away from the birth month board. After a while, I started checking out the board for our due date, which helped a lot.

  • Adalyn smiled at about 6 weeks adjusted (~4 months actual), the day before I went back to work!

FWIW, I stayed on my BMB (May 2012) even though she was born in February.

  • About 6 weeks adjusted, so 11 weeks actual.  I remember how tough it was to see all these other smiling babies in my mom's group, but DS caught up in time.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • Mine didn't smile until they were about two months old. I also suspect that many of the women on your BMB are also feeling behind because their babies aren't smiling either, but no one posts "My baby isn't doing anything new."
  • She was 10 weeks actual, 6 weeks adjusted before she started smiling intentionally.  She had done it in her sleep, but that wasn't the same.  It is hard waiting for something most moms experience early on but it will come!

  • LO is 3 months, 3 weeks, adjusted age 1 month, 3 weeks and has just recently started smiling regularly.  We really needed that reinforcement and it melts my heart.

This exactly. I never have gone to my twins birth month board. Their due fete board is easier to look at.

  • Lo started smiling about 4 weeks adjusted.  She's a smiley girl now and for the most part smiles nonstop.  It's so darn adorable.  I know it's frustrating to wait, but it'll be totally worth it!

  • 6 weeks adjusted (17 weeks actual)... the one good thing about waiting so long is that that first real smile that breaks through will totally rock your world!!

  • 6-7 weeks adjusted (14-15 weeks actual). I think my whole outlook changed once he started smiling. It's well worth the wait.

I think worrying is normal. I started worrying that my son was going to be delayed about a few days before he finally smiled. The change is sudden... one day they aren't doing something, and the next they surprise you with a new trick.
