I know I'm in the minority but I do wake my baby to eat during the day. My pedi recommended this until she is regularly sleeping long stretches at night. The reasoning is she can get her calories during the day and hopefully wake up less at night. I don't wake her up abruptly I try to help her wake up on her own; for example, turning off her swing or undoing her swaddle.
We do a flexible eat, activity, sleep schedule, but if she wants to sleep again right after eating I let her. On the flip side of waking her, I also don't let her stay up too long during the day; about an hour after she's finished eating I get her down again give or take, except from about 710pm, right before bed. She's a very happy baby.
It's worked for us, and I'm happy to report she's been regularly sleeping 6 hour stretches for about a week!
I only let my LO sleep for 3hr stretches during the day and then I wake her up because I don't want her to sleep too long during the day and not sleep at night. Most of the time I don't have to worry about this tho because I am lucky to get her to stay out for 30mins at a time.
With doing this she has been sleeping 8-10hrs straight through the night.

that's what our midwife recommends as well! Just curious, do you do cluster feeding from 7-10? When did your LO start the longer sleep stretch?
i know it's early days yet but I try to wake our dd 3-4hr during the day to eat but her night stretch is still shrter than during the day

i have a 4 week old that is well past birthweight. i dont let him sleep more then 3 hours during the day. i also unswaddle him so he pretty much wakes himself up with his arms. at night i let him sleep. we get about a 4 hour stretch until he wakes up. i was told by a lactation consultant to keep this routine.

This is us exactly. When we are lucky enough to get a 3 hour stretch in during the day we wake her. She has her days and nights down great and has been sleeping 68 hr stretches at night.
Re: Waking up my baby (1 month 1 week)
Agreed. They will wake up if they need something. If they are asleep, they are just content. Plus, sleeping baby = happy mommy!
