I have a complete stash of Sbish snapless fitteds and they *were* working great for us up until a month ago. Here are the issues I'm having: (by the way, we use Thirsties Duo Wrap covers)
- he wakes up soaking wet every morning (we use one sbish doubler and a Babykicks doubler). It leaves his skin SO wet and his room reeks of ammonia every morning.
- The leg "gussets" are very "crunchy". We use RNG Hard Rock and Ecover, but the leg part rubs my son's legs raw.
- He is drinking less milk and more solids, so his liquid intake hasn't really gone up too much.
When washing, we wash on two rinse cycles (cold water, no soap) and then normal cycle with RNG/Ecover.
Any recommendations? Maybe it's time to strip them? How do I do this with this type of dipe?
TIA, ladies!!
Re: Major leakage with Sbish dipes
I haven't yet had to strip so I hope you get some good advice.
PP if you are using your Sbish for the first time and have prepped them properly I doubt you'll have a problem.
DS slept in his for the first time last night. He went almost 12 hours without a problem. He had been rashy since he was about 10 weeks old, so I had switched over to using sposies at night with non-CD safe barrier cream. Last night I used a fleece liner with the Sbish and wool diaper cover. No leaks and his skin was nice and clear in the morning, too! Here's hoping he outgrew that earlier sensitivity (he is 5 months now)! Bonus: with sposies he usually wakes up once or twice in the middle of the night wanting his diaper changed. With the Sbish he slept straight through, which meant I got to STTN as well!
For the absorbency, are you using both of the sbish inserts that come with the diaper and a babykicks insert? You probably need more absorbency. I only use the snapless as an emergency overnight diaper, and then I have to add both insert that come with the diaper as well as a trifolded hemp babies little weeds hemp flat.
Also, when you say he is soaking wet are you referring to the diaper being soaked, or your son? If it's your son you can add a fleece liner.
For the crunchiness, are you line drying the diapers, or drying them in the dryer? The only time my snapless are crunchy is when I line dry. Most of the time I put them in the dryer on LOW (recommended by sbish) with some dryer balls, then they are nice and soft.
Do you rinse or soak your overnight diapers first thing in the morning? I find this really helps to get some of the pee out of the diaper, which helps reduce the ammonia build up in the diaper.
To strip I would use RLR.
