Hi there! I am due in January and we have 2 cats and a dog. My dog won't be a problem with baby at all, and one of my cats will probably avoid baby like the plague, but my 2nd kitty is very curious. Friendly, but very very curious and he is a busy body too and is always up and getting into things at night.
Anyone with cats, especially a curious one? How did it treat the baby? Is there something you do to keep them apart or do you let the cats near the baby? Advice?
Thanks!

Re: Mommies with cats
I have a cat who is kind of neurotic. Scardey but also scratchy when he freaks out so I was very worried. However, no problems at all. I make sure the door is shut when the baby is sleeping and I just watch carefully. I also shoo him away if he gets too close. He also has his own room so I can close the door if I feel any concern. Maybe let the cat sniff something that has the baby's scent to dull his curiosity?
Oh! One more thing we didn't try but I read about - a cat net.

I have 2 cats; one is pretty hyper, the other is laid back.
Before he was here, they just laid all over everything of his. Now that he's here, they do the same thing. They've never jumped in his bassinet or crib while he's in there, but if he's not in there, they'll lounge in it until they see me coming and then they'll jump out. When I walk in the room with the baby, they'll jump out, so they know they're not supposed to be in there/that the baby needs it. My laid back cat just lays on the floor by where ever he is (if he's in the swing, she's under it; bassinet, she's next to it). My other cat gets curious and sniffs him, she's nudged his feet a couple of times with her head, but other than that, they leave him alone.
While I was pregnant, everything I read said to have the baby around the animals as much as possible, so that they get used to the baby.
SCANDAL!
When we move LO to the crib in her room, I will keep the door shut at all times she's sleeping.
Our cats have been extra needy. Be prepared to pet them as much as you can but its still never enough!

My Blog

I was very concerned about my cats as they are very attached to myself and my husband. However, they pretty much ignore the baby. I was pleasantly surprised, but I still DO NOT leave them alone with the baby.
Our cat is very wild. However, she pretty much leaves the baby alone. She sleeps in the PnP, but only when it is empty. Ds#2 sleeps in the RnP at night and the cat sleeps on our bed. She never tries to get in there with the baby.
Once we move him to his crib, I will just close the door to the nursery to keep the cat out. (Same as we did with ds #1)
~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~
